So you want to be a rock star?

Are you in a band or do you wonder what being in a band is like? Rootnode took some time to talk to Jeff, the bass player from the band Evoke. He gave us tips on getting booked, gigging, promotion, and all the other things that a new band faces.

Being in a band today isn't like it was in the sixties. Small venues are scarce, competition is enormous, and most people don't even listen to bands that aren't played on the radio. Gone are the days where anyone could get a gig at their local bar. Today, bands are expected to have one or more CDs out before they are even signed to a label. Lackluster crowd turnout for local music is forcing owners to be very selective about who they showcase. And if your band does get a gig, the pay varies from nothing to almost nothing. So what should a band do? Read on.
