Japan: Handhelds rule weekly sales

While PS3 maintains its lead over Wii
Handheld platforms dominated the Japanese hardware chart during the week ended April 11.

PSP Slim was the top selling individual system, shifting 30,000 units, while combined sales of the three available DS models cleared 36,000 units.

PS3 again topped Wii, the two consoles moving 29,000 and 25,500 units respectively.

A small rise in weekly sales wasn't enough to see Xbox 360 move out of the bottom three, while PSPgo overtook PS2.

PSP - 29,766
PS3 - 28,973
Wii - 25,345
DSi LL - 19,372
DSi - 13,738
DS Lite - 3,349
Xbox 360 - 3,218
PSPgo - 1,826
PS2 - 1,425

As we reported yesterday, New Super Mario Bros. Wii returned to the top of the weekly software chart.

The standout thing for me is how the DS and PS3 conform to the usual norm of the newest model being more popular than an older model, whereas the newer PSPGo is much, much less popular than the older PSP Slim.
