MS investigating poor working conditions in China factory

Chinese workers allegedly subjected to 'military-style' conditions in MS front line
Microsoft says its investigating allegations of poor working conditions for workers in one of its factories in Dongguan, China.

According to a National Labor Committee report recently, employees at a production line for Microsoft mouse, keyboard and Xbox controller units are being subjected to harsh working conditions, military style punishments, 15-hour working days and dirty dorm rooms.

Brian Tobey of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices unit said: "We have a team of independent auditors en route to the facility to conduct a complete and thorough investigation."

He added: "If we find that the factory is not adhering to our standards, we will take appropriate action."

This should not have been announced until after the inspection. Surprise inspections have the potential to reveal a lot more dirty dealings.

Well, it is China. It wouldn't surprise me if this was the case.

By appropriate action they mean fire the bastard who let the reporter in!

I would be interested in hearing how this pans out and what actions, if any, Microsoft take. Can you please keep us posted on this story.

agreed. You wouldn't see Sony giving harsh working conditions to its factory workers in America... lol

Poor working conditions, poor quality hardware. That means that 360 consoles are made by 5 year old kids at a gunpoint on 20hrs a day shift.

It's actually not a Microsoft factory it's owned by Kye Systems and the work is 3rd Partied out to them.

Other companies that also use this "slave camp" are HP, Samsung, Acer, Logitech and Asus to name a few.

I'm sure they all know exactly what's going on or are happy to remain blissfully ignorant...it's all about the profits not the people!
