Epic opens Japan office

Will offer Unreal Engine 3 licensing and tech support, maybe make games
Epic Games has today opened its first office in Japan.

The Tokyo subsidiary's primarily role will be to offer Unreal Engine 3 licensing and technical support to the company's local partners, but it could become a development centre down the line.

After announcing plans to open the office at the Tokyo Game Show last year, Epic president Mike Capps said: "I think Japan has the strongest game development in the world, so I have secret plans to hopefully hire some game developers too."

Today's launch event featured an appearance from special guests including Goichi 'Suda51' Suda, CEO of Grasshopper Manufacture, who's currently working on a horror action game with EA using Unreal Engine 3.

Busy week for Epic then, what with the unveiling of Bulletstorm and Gears of War 3 on Monday.
