Weird reasons for being banned on Xbox Live

Theft, avatar modification and more make OXM's list
Following the strange story of the porn star wannabe who was banned from Xbox Live until the year 9999, OXM UK has found other reasons why 360 owners have been getting the boot from Microsoft's service.

While some of the reasons are fairly unremarkable - swearing on your bio, swearing at other players on Live, and so on - there are some unusual results in there.

There was a rash of bannings following FIFA 10's Ultimate Team DLC release after players found a glitch that allowed them to download it for free. Those who did so were promptly banned for 'marketplace theft'.

Likewise, there have been lifetime bans handed out for 'avatar modifications' and setting up 'tenth prestige lobbies' in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Check out OXM UK for the full list.

I'm glad you can't get banned from psn. Not that I do anything that would result in getting banned. Plus I'm glad there isn't some jerk off constantly monitoring what I do, and can at any point ban me for no reason.

This guy was on mw2 and he had gotten to tenth prestige legitimately and posted vids on youtube frequently to track his progress. Then this moderator was in a lobby with him then banned the guy because he 'assumed' the guy had cheated.

Also what if you had just paid for a years worth of live and you get banned, do you get your remaining balance for the rest of the year back? What if you had left over money in the marketplace? Does that just disappear? Knowing M$ it probably does.

You sure mate?

I for one am happy I pay MS to police their online service. Unfair bans happen and people are sorted out.

Though to question as to whether or not cheaters or hackers get their money back after breaking the Ts&Cs that's just stupid, surely they wouldnt??

I buy a car, dont insure it, no liscense then have a car chase and they impound my car. Refund plox!

Maybe if they fixed the system this wouldn't be an issue. You shouldn't get banned for doing a cheat/glitch in a game. Thats retarded. If they were messing with Xbox Live itself then maybe.

The assumptions are also outrageous, there needs to be definitive proof before someone gets banned. Not just cause some Mod doesn't like you. or assumes you were doing something wrong.

A police officer can't just arrest someone because he feels like it. There needs to be some legitimate proof a crimes been commited. Many moderators abuse their power on Live, there have been a ton of bs bans. That shouldn't be the case.

Best you check the Code of Conduct.

YES you can get banned from PSN! the first person to comment on this is wrong! In fact many have, and many a console has been traded in as it is banned from PSN to stores....better check your facts, there was a court case over the banning of someone on PSN for being an idiot swearing etc etc

Live is a joke at the best of times. "Marketplace theft" ? Then maybe M$ shouldn't do things in such a half bottomd manner and maybe things like that wouldn't happen. But because they rush everything to be 'first' or whatever, practically everything they release has some way of being exposed or exploited (or just be a pain in the bottom) as its never finished

I have never met a person who claimed innocence who got out of an XBL ban. They usually ask for an appeal... and then get their guts plastered across the nearest wall by the moderator, armed with an evidence-launcher.

I'll go out on a limb here: If you get perma-banned, you did something egregiously wrong. Period. Do you really think Microsoft is going to kill a $50-a-year golden goose casually?

And be careful who you listen to. These cheaters have shown time and time again, they don't care as long as they get away with it. They will put out so much misinformation to make themselves look innocent. And half the time they present the very evidence that condemns them and ignore it, maintaining their innocence.

As far as I'm concerned, if you cheat you get banned. Just like in any sport.

Unfair bans happen and people are sorted out.

That's not true. My Elite which I had for over a year got unbanned for no reason whatsoever and I had in anger phoned up Microsoft determined to send it in to them so they could see it hasn't even been tampered with let alone anything else and they refused.

After that my 360 then also died due the game not running off the HDD anymore (never had any problems before) so I had to buy yet another one so that I could play at all, not just online again Mad

In the process of trying to fix it myself right now, but I doubt Microsoft will unban it the greedy bastards Evil or Very Mad

Got banned on the xbox 1's live years ago when my best friend decided to drive a mini round the track the wrong way in a ferrari only race on project gotham racing 2,i was banned for 2 weeks, i could have killed him at the time.
galvatron81 on 20 Apr '10
Those glitching douches deserve the ban but for swearing? really? Pretty much 99% of gamers would need to be banned then.
