EA: 'Activision shot Modern Warfare racehorse'

Electronic Arts takes another pop at the Call of Duty publisher
It's fair to say that Activision has a few people gunning for it at the moment, not least its chief rival EA.

Fresh from the victory of signing a major publishing deal with the new studio opened by former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella, EA's had another pop at Activision.

The latest dig, from EA's US director of corporate communications, Jeff Brown, comes after Activision said it expects to be quids in during the first quarter of 2010 thanks to the "record breaking" success of Modern Warfare 2's Stimulus pack DLC.

Referring to Activision's announcement, Brown told IndustryGamers:

"This is kind of like announcing: The race horse I shot last month has won the Triple Crown!"

Another two members of the Modern Warfare 2 team bailed on Infinity Ward and Activision today, meaning the number of walkouts since early March is now in double figures, which certainly isn't a joke for the Call of Duty maker.

Its nice to actually see for once that what goes around comes around. Greedy Activision deserve everything they get.

I really wish you would stop reporting about this EA/Activision bulls**t. Who really cares what sly remarks EA (or any folks for that matter) have to say about Activision/IW/MW2 anymore? We get it, MW2 sold well despite being a fairly poor sequel and everyone likes to bitch and moan and express their own, oh so important opinion on it.

Just give it up and report about actual games and not the bulls**t business behind it all.

I care. For I am caring.

i agree with the above, theres next to no info about games on this site compared to the politics.

unfortuantely it's comments like ours that CVG love and the reason why they post these stories over and over again.

Jeff Brown: This is kind of like announcing: The race horse I shot last month has won the Triple Crown!"

Well I lol'd. Seriously though, there is such a thing as kicking someone when their down ....

Oh hang on it's Activision we're talking about. Wait there i'll get me steel toe capped boots on then.

There is somehting I would love to know from Vince and friends:

How much of the utter bulls**t that came out of Bowlings craphole was Activisions doing or IW's regarding the PC debacle.

I've seen the transcript of the interview with Vince on I think it was the Target USA site just before MW2 was released and he could barely hide his distain for PC gamers. This was when he claimed that MW2 was not balanced for the 'lean' function!!!!! So maybe the CoD franchise is best rid of 'em, I don't know.

I very much doubt we'll see Vinces new company produce a solid PC game, at best it will be a p**s poor console port like MW2 allegedly wasn't (but was really).

I've been wondering about that as well. While I find it to be an apparent case of poetic justice, what's unfolding over at Activision's IW studio, I'm not quite ready yet to hold Vince & Co. forth as innocent, little darlings of the gaming world's media.

I don't care. That was a f**king brilliant comment. Someone buy the man a beer! Laughing

Im sick of this story. its being played out by middle aged men who are acting like children on a playground. The journos are even worse for printing this ongoing rubbish.

Its time the game industry matured and held onto its dignity. Its like im reading about some transcript of a back and forth between teenage gamers on xbox live.

Most of the game "news" on here is nothing but opinion and sensationalist crap. And the articles aimed at the fanboys, over which console preforms better, is only to get imbeciles to comment and read comments over and over, in the hope that it will rack up some advertising revenue. Thats no way to run a mag. Its cheap.

Even if IW are wrong in terms of the lawsuit Activision are still a bunch of idiots, I hope that most of IW leave and join West and Zampella at Respawn Ent.

I alse hope that Activision lose control over Modern Warfare.

And finally, I want Respawn Ent. to have a hit with EA so they can rub it in their faces...lol

I know this is taking up a lot of column inches on video game website, but it's an important thing to report on.

Everyone is constantly moaning about how multi-million publishers like EA and Activision treat gamers, and the IW sackings/walkouts are a massive event. We don't know all the details, but it's interesting that such important people would go and take this kind of action. Nothing this big has happened since the Bullfrog/Lionhead split, or maybe Rare/Free Radical.

I'm glad it's being covered, I think it's a big thing for the industry. If you just want to know about new games, fair enough, but I am interested in how the mechanics work and how people are being treated.

Ultimately we'll see the results when all this has calmed down and we see what kind of games everyone puts out.

Gaming is becoming a massive industry, and also a valid art form. Looking back to the genesis of the Hollywood studio system, the next few years could prove to be the defining era in how games make the jump between entertainment and art.

I, for one, am going to keep paying attention.

I totally agree with the above poster. This is the closest thing to real news that's happening at the moment.

This is huge news for the business in general and anyone moaning about it's coverage really ought to go else where.

This whole escapade is fascinating, we're watching one of the most dramatic things to happen in the industry for years.
ledickolas on 15 Apr '10
this is turning into a bit of a bitch fest now... so Activision "had what's coming to them," people have an opinion on this company like its a real person, ffs it's a business!! a business out to make as much money as it can." Yes...you can have an opinion on the individuals who work for the company i.e. the owner...but we really need to stop treating the companies like they have any alternative motive other than 'profit'! Deal with it...

I don't really get the comment, any help?

Anyways personally i don't like Activision but lets not forget EA where a bunch of snooker cues a few years back....

Anyway EA's list looks good this year, im tired of all my mates going on about modern overrratedfare 2 and see me as the odd one out because i like Halo.

Hail the white dragon of the saxons!

It won the Triple Crown while it's dead!? Impressive.

LOL get the boot in EA!

Down, down, deeper and down!

Props to Darry, excellently put my friend.

This is industry effecting news. I'm surprised at the amount of people who express disinterest, yet they are registered on this site. this would suggest they are gamers, proper games fans, so how can you not be interested in the whole picture? That's like being a football fan, but only being interested in the results of your team...

Have to say, Activisions arrogance and bullishness over the entire affair appears to be backfiring on them nicely.

Tell my Bobby, how do you plan to exploit the franchise as much as you can, when all the people who started it are gone?

Methinks the Call of Duty brand may be a sinking ship...
FlimFlam on 16 Apr '10
wait- activision shot a horse?!
sexycaptaindave on 16 Apr '10
EA have also stated that Bad Company 2 is a MW2 killer. The people from Infinity Ward have joined EA.

The BFBC2 game was changed to emulate MW2, so we are left with clones of MW2.

1. How long will it take for EA to become arrogant as per Activision ?

2. Is Medal of Honour going to be another MW2 clone.

3. Seems that there will not be any games with large maps for online - we are going to be stuck with MW2 clones.

I thought the MW 2 online game was very good - slightly bigger maps.
