Sturmovik multiplayer modes revealed

More than just dog fighting
A selection of multiplayer modes have been revealed for IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey.

And here they are:

Dog Fight
Dog fight is a traditional 'free-for-all' mode. After selecting initial game settings (number of players, difficulty level, planes available, game play map, time limit, points limits etc) players engage in aerial dogfights earning points for every downed enemy aircraft.

The winner is the first pilot to reach the point limit first or the pilot with the most points when the allotted time runs out.

Team Dog Fight
After selecting initial settings, players are divided into two teams. Like Dog fight, points are earned for every downed aircraft in the enemy's team.

The winner is the team that reaches the point limit first or has the most points when the allotted time runs out.

Strike
Strike is a multiplayer mode where teams attempt to destroy as many of the enemy's ground targets as possible, while defending their own. The winner is the team with either the most points when the timer runs out, the team that reaches the points limit first or the team who wipes out all of their opponent's ground targets. Points are awarded for both aerial and ground targets, although ground targets are worth more points than those in the air.

Capture the Airfield
Players attempt to capture and hold as many opposition airfields as possible. An airfield is considered captured once a player lands and spends a specified amount of time on the ground without being destroyed. All airfields in this mode being the game as neutral, so securing airfields quickly is crucial.

Each team is granted a specified number of team tickets at the beginning of the game. Each time a player respawns, one team ticket is used up. Once a team has no tickets left, it cannot return to the battlefield.

The team controlling the lowest number of airfields suffers a penalty of their ticket pool being depleted second by second. The bigger this disadvantage, the quicker the ticket pool is depleted.

The winner is the team that has the most tickets left either at the end of the match or when an enemy team loses all tickets and planes.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey will take off on September 4 for 360, PS3, DS and PSP.

When I red the sub-title, "More then just dog fighting", I was like.. isnt dog fighting illegal, oo.

But realized its just another world war airplane fight-fest.

Really looking forward to this. Love flying games like Ace combat and i really liked the demo so this is a day 1 purchase for me.

There's only two reason I won't be buying this.

Firstly, the looking around in the in-cockpit view is handled so badly I gave up with the demo really quickly. Holding down a thumbstick to look around is awkward, really, really awkward. And there's a simple solution! But yet again another game comes out and the developers don't care to allow gamers to customise the keys/controls. The other reason, and this minor by comparison to the one above, is that online will allow both in-cockpit view and exterior view to fight each other. Ridiculous. While I accept and think it's right that gamers should have a choice, when competing online there should be servers running both view types independantly. So while I prefer the harder and more realistic of the two views, it means a massive disadvantage for those who use the exterior view and see all around far easier! I know this crap happens in racing games, but the same applies. Some of us enjoy playing games in a first-person perspective as a simulation or as realistic a mode as these games get, but are always bunched together with the arcade, easy-view loving gamers!

I've been away from IL-2 for quite a while, but I thought it was a typical PC hardcore propeller-head game. How did it end up in the hands of casual console gamers?

Im not bothered if it lets you play online using any view on the lesser difficulty levels...

Arcade realism lets you use any view but if you set it to simulation realism, the game only allows cockpit or virtual cockpit view to be used.

As long as the game lets you set up a SIMULATION realism room for multiplayer then it should all be cockpit views for every1 in that room.

If you made an arcade realism room then it would let everyone there use whatever view they wanted.

Thats just what i guessed from playing the demo anyway... have you heard otherwise? like someone saying that players get to use any view they want for a multiplayer game even if its on simulation realism?
