it's also because conduit and madworld arn't very good. The games are good. I myself have HotD:O and MadWorld and enjoyed them a lot. The problem is that a lot of Nintendo core fans stopped caring after last years lack of anything worth getting and moved on from the Wii. I know there are some great games coming for Xmas but even I, a life long Nintendo fan, haven't played my Wii that much this year. I think I only got 4 games on it this year so far (the 2 above and both Pikmin). Saying that, I've found it a slow year for games and nothing so far has been AAA (Resi 5 was about as close as it got for me). maybe cos the core gamers have the better systems? I disagree with what you said about the wii's controls, i like it and its only poor to someone whos completely inept but i agree with you on conduit and madworld being crap games. The control system is nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be, it's a lot more comfortable than you would think.
It's most likely down to the games just being half arsed appraochs to "core games" There's nothing special about The Conduit so I can see why that won't sell, Madworld was good but it's graphical style is likely to have put of many people, whihc is quite silly :roll:
It made me laugh when they said they were challenging though :lol: Maybe that's the problem, they're really not challenging. 'Sigh', poor nintendo. I imagine The Conduit isn't selling that well because it's a very average game...
Madworld has done no worse than other 'stylised' games on other consoles though.
Core third party games can sell well on the Wii, it's just they all seem to be games in established franchises that do it. i'd say its to do with advertising. A day doesn't go by that you don't see an add for any of Nintendos games or the big hitters on the other consoles. while as a lot of the 3rd party games on the wii get overshadowed.
Madworld and Overkill rate as some of the best games i've played this year. scratch that this gen. Haven't laughed so hard playing a game in years. brilliant. 'I blame our schoools'
IMO the wii has the best controller this gen. and from the looks of things motion controls are here to stay. using pointer control in fpss is far superior to twidling analogue sticks. only thing comparable to it is mouse and keyboard.
Most of the people i've seen that overtly vocal about hating wii controls are sonyboys,funny considering its about to get its own wii mote of a sort. Its ok guys i know its hard to try using a different controller after all these years, but trust me its for the best. Wrong...

Its all about adverts. Some crap games on the Wii and DS sell loads because they have a cool advert behind them, whereas I haven't seen a single add for The Conduit on TV. As for its sales, it wasnt't on sale throughout the whole of June, only the last week or two of it. Probably because a load of us stopped caring about the wii. I gave up on it a long time ago, the only reason i've not sold it is for collection purposes. Yeah. It's probably because Nintendo made it quite clear at the beginning that they are going after the casual market, and people such as our selves who considder gaming as a hobbie, rather than something to have 5 minutes of fun with before going out with the girls on a saturday night, already have either an Xbox or PS3. None of the games she mentioned in the article are good enough for me to warrant splashing out £200 on another console, just to play it.
The Conduit or L4D/Killzone? Hmmm... House of the Dead, or Dead Space? Again, I say Hmmm.. Seriously, I don't think it takes much figuring out.. Well i'm sure we're about to see loads of Wii bashing that we've seen before on these forums, but i have to say that any one who claims that you only play Wii games for 5 mins or casual shows a total lack of knowledge. I have to say that The PS3 & 360 can't exactly shout about their love for core gamers as large amount of their current products for the next few months are not game related. Who really gives a damn about using facebook/Last FM/Netflix/Sky and all that other crap MS went on about (and to a lesser extent Sony). If core gamers are really all 360 & PS3 owners do they really want that stuff, and if you do are you really a core gamer? When companies diversfy into new markets like when Nintendo decided to cater for the Casual and Hardcore gamers markets, they tend to water down what is on offer on both sides of the fense or one side gets better treatment while the other side trails behind.
When it comes to Nintendo not only have they watered down the content they produce but they have also ignored the hardcore audiance that like proper games, it was only a matter of time until Nintendo fell on its backside and realised how important its orignal market was.
Too little too late really, when it comes to third parties finally seeing Wii as a Platform worth making good titles for but even then the titles like Madworld, The Conduit and House of The Dead Overkill hardly push any new ground from the PS2 and Gamecube days.
Most hardcore gamers that bought the Wii only bought it for its prestigous first party offerings to begin with, so it doesn't suprise me that third party core games on the Wii have not sold that well, since nearly none of them have really been on par with Nintendo's releases such as Mario Galaxy, Zelda TP, Mario Kart Wii, SSMB, Metroid Prime 3 and so on.
Only three devlopers EA, Sega and Capcom have really made some great games for the Wii and who ever made Little King Story. Third parties really need to push the envlope in terms of new gameplay ideas and presentation of those ideas before the people that bought the Wii soully for Nintendo titles think that third parties are finally up there in terms of quality like Nintendo are.
I know that a lot of games from third parties are great but when you play a great game from Nintendo like Super Mario Galaxy and then when you finish you go and find another game if it does not match or out do SMG majesty then why play the inferior
game, that is the way I see it anyway. Maybe cos the wii's graphics SUCK? Yes SUCK. They do. Don't try to deny it. They SUCK. Are graphics important YES. To me they are. The wii just didn't satisfy my burgeoning desire for high-end graphics. I found games less realistic and believable, plus there just aren't any games that made me sit up and take note. Mario Galaxy was fun, Zelda TP was enjoyable, but nearly everything else left me wanting more. I wanted more, so I got more. I sold my wii and got a PS3. Now I've got more games than I know what to do with . I'm not trolling, I'm just saying my opinion. I'm not sure how Nintendo will ever win me back. I much prefer it when they're the underdog. I really can't abide confident, smug Nintendo. I want Wiigodboy or that new alias of his to come, then we are guaranteed some lolz.
Seriously, though, I can see a few reasons behind this. 1)-Marketing. Stop with the despicable 'Heinz Wolff's Gravity' and 'Cooking Mama' adverts and advertise that the Wii is a system NOT aimed solely at casuals and families.
2)-Reputation. Nintendo, no matter how many AAA action games they bring out, are never going to shake the 'kiddy' appeal off of the Wii, which puts many core gamers off before they even look into buying one.
3)-Lack of action games. Having more action games will encourage more core gamers to buy the system, which will have a domino effect as sales for ALL the action games go up, since fans of action-y genres now own the system.
The Wii is great and so is the controller, stop bashing them, get on a Wii, and bash the TV with a Wiimote instead. Seems alot of people feel the same way about Nintendo.
then again if you're are a bit of a graphics whore i'd say the PS3 is the right way to go. Never played any ugly ga,es on the PS3 or particuly challenging games. couple unique titles but most of them imo have been pretty bog standard. the same stuff we got last gen only prettier.
The wii on the other hand has a lot more games that take a different approach and make things seem fresh again. Resi 4s a good example. Loved it on the GC but the new controls of the wii version breathed new life into it.
Personally i find that alot of this gens HD offerings are lacking heart. Something you can't say of the wiis better offerings.
Since wii games don't have flashy graphics to hide behind, they need to be good at the fundemental things that made gaming fun in the first place. So they are either fantastic or terrible. Like gaming used to be.
Personally i have more games for my wii than my PS3 and 360 combined. My point, Orafice, was that from the word go, Nintendo showed us all that it was catering for casual gamers, and the games it does have for the core/hardcore are no way near as good as what the 360 and PS3 have to offer. My comment about 5 minute casual gameing was mearly to illustrate that point, and does not show "a total lack of understanding".
Also, using the Last FM/Facebook as an argument for the 360 not being for core gamers just doesn't make sense. The 360 and PS3's games are massively superior to the Wii, and cater for gamers who take gaming a little more seriously than the average Wii sports player. If they also have access to Facebook, good. It saves me from booting up my laptop when I fancy looking at FB. Also, having Sky will be great, as I don't want to pay a subscription, but do want to watch the football without having to go to the pub all the time.
Seriously kiddo, if you are going to start on people, at least try to have a credible argument, rather than trying to pick apart every detail when you know that the 5 minute thing is not the point I am making.

You have illustrated my point of view very well with these comments. Although complaining about the graphics of the wii shows a complete lack of mental fortitude (surely that would mean every single console preceding current technology is rubbish), I would have to agree with the people who are saying that they just stopped caring. I'm exactly the same.
There just weren't enough decent 'proper' games on the Wii in its early life (there still isn't) and so I ended up getting a 360 and eventually a PS3 for my real gaming needs and just use the Wii for when people come round, and for the I player. I'm sure there are loads of people like this.
If the Conduit or Madworld had been released close to launch then I may well have bought them, but now I just think 'why not just buy Uncharted 2 and MW2 instead?'

I agree with you, a lot of devs seem to go for style over substance these days, although I do buy more for my PS3 than anything else still. I think the quality of the good third partys titles aren't the problem, they're about as good as they can be given the limitations they have to overcome.
I was thinking about this over the weekend and I think a lot of the problem stems from Nintendo's reluctance to be dragged kicking and screaming into the online, always connected 21st century.
For example- I went into Gamestation the other day and picked up a guitar only pack of Guitar Hero world tour on 360. I could have purchased this cheaper on the Wii, but the added bonus of extensive DLC, HD graphics, marginally better sound, gamerpoints, friends lists, more robust online meant I went for the more expensive version.
The online infrastructure Sony and Microsoft (MS I consider to be superior, but my point applies to both) have laid down make even averagely good titles feel like more than the sum of their parts.
When I buy a Wii game, I get the distinct feeling once i've sampled it's game mechanics, I've drained every bit of enjoyment there is to have out of it. Unlock a trophy in Smash Brothers? Wonderful, it can sit there in your save game. Concept art in Metroid? Great, I'm really going to fire up the game just to look at that again.
Thanks to Nintendo's very abstract and anonymous approach to the online side of the Wii, even ignoring the lack of graphical horsepower the console feels like it comes from a time when internet connections were optional.
The reason I keep my Wii is for one of the only "modern" online features I actually enjoy on it- the Virtual Console. All the other half baked ideas (Miis, weather channel, News, etc) just feel tacked on and lack a fundamental lack of understanding in the way people use these devices.
I hope next time round regardless of how powerful they make the console they'll understand a lot of people want to interact, communicate and have a recordable account of their achievements to share with their friends, not hook up through a 16 digit number once every few months. NO. i was serious. I'd take little kings story, Overkill, punchout and Madworld and No more heroes over most of the glossy souless shite on the PS3 and 360.
However i didn't say that all games on the HD machines were souless. Bioshock, fallout3, dead space and recently uncharted are all stonking.

Can't say I agree but fair enough. I would hardly describe Dead Space, Mass Effect, L4D, The Orange Box, Fable 2 and Street Fighter 4 as having a lack of heart though. Monty its shows how much of a prat you as you missed my point. You can't make a comment like the "five minutes" and then back track on it because some challenges you. I unlike yourself do have a good understanding of these things, i always own all the consoles to give me a good range knowledge to fall back on when i need it. The point i was making about Facebook and Sky and all was relevent to the point that people are complaining about the Wii only having casual software where has the 360 has only core games. For me the point of a games console is to play "games" and Wii sports and all are games, even if they are not your type of game. I'd rather they focus on some good and original software for the 360 rather than all the extra media centre guff. There are just to many souless clones & sequals coming out for the xbox at the moment and i'd like to see them focus on some original and innovative games. it doesn't help when you get the same franchises accross the systems only to find the wii versions are a watered down version.

sorry but devs/publishers are just taking the piss and because nintendo have been playing up the casual side of things on the Wii then they are the architects of this mess.
I am a massive Nintendo fan and there's some great 'niche' products on the Wii but that's pretty much all there is for me. For example if there's going to be a new call of duty game there's no way on earth i'd buy a Wii edition as the online will be gimped, the graphics rubbish and somehow it will be shorter/more casual (probably).
I have switched some sporting allegiance to Wii though. I have the EA tennis game on Wii and I'll pick up Tiger Woods on Wii rather than 360 this year. neither would I. I already mentioned Dead space in my post.
Interesting you mentioned SF IV. its a prime example of what i'm talking about. Graphically its not the most polished fighter in the world, but its solid and charming despite this.

I like you, you're fuuny. I like you because you are funny. There've been no good games this year on the 360 except for Street Fighter IV. Resident Evil 5 was pure shite - a real fall from grace for the series.
As for the Wii, there's been more on that on the 360 that's worth having. Yes, Madworld can be repetitive but is fun. THOTD Overkill is great fun and then there's Punch Out!! (which I've yet to get).
Core games from third parties on the Wii don't sell cos generally they're crap, like The Conduit for example. Nothing strikes out about that games, not even its graphics. Third party devs tend to release games with shit graphics and controls and then wonder why no one buys them. Like someone pointed out for Madworld, its a stylised game that's been overlooked. Okami was the same...
People are just buying franchise drivel now. CoD and GH are the biggest culprits of overkill. And If you look on Wikipedia, its only really CoD and GTA that are the massive sellers for the 360 anyway. Other games only sell around a million (maybe two at most)worldwide and that's pretty crappy for those games as they cost a lot more than Wii games to make.. Well i try to be Monty, i try lol. That's what i get for rushing while being at work. If only there was a way to write about games and get paid for it.... oh wait thats what the guys at CVG do. I know what people mean by 'heart'. It was the heart or charm of Fable 2 and Nuts and Bolts that really won me over.
The lack of online in some of these games definitely effects the replay value, and when Nintendo get it right (MK being a prime example, but also one of the MoH or CoD games, I forget which one was still great fun online, if not as in depth as 360/PS3) I am still playing the games well over a year later.
Personally speaking, the best wii games more than hold their own against the best on the PS3/360, there just aren't enough of them. And they are nearly all nintendo, so when Nintendo spent a year on casual games, there is a large gap in the market but no third parties really stepped up.
For me, wii games seem to either be high 8s or 9s or 6s or lower. The PS3/360 has lots of games around around the late 7's and 8's. Judging by WSR and Tiger 10, the motion plus should be a real shot in the arm, gameplay wise - EA have got it right with Tiger (although I thought the wii version of TW was the best one without motion plus) - lets hope the others can.
One final negative for the wii in this regard - no patches for software. If developers could go back and patch controls for motion plus, I think some average games would really improve. Hell, don't tell Nintendo but I'd probably even pay a few points if the developers charged for it. I've been thinking about buying a Wii recently. Wii Sports Resort with the Motion Plus looks like fun. The only thing that puts me off the console at the moment is the price. For all it does it's just too expensive. Buy the console with Wii Sports Resort and a few extra games and you're soon into PS3 territory. If Nintendo dropped the price to £99 I'd buy one tomorrow along with all those core games. post 1 idiot idiot idiot
