In 1983, Aboveground Art Supplies began in a tiny, 300 square foot, windowless, second story location (hence the name) at Dundas Street West and McCaul Street in Toronto, with the intention of attracting the nearby students of the (then) Ontario College of Art. Later that year we moved to 71 McCaul Street. After numerous expansions, the space was overflowing and it was getting difficult to turn around in the aisles. A larger self-contained facility was required and, as luck would have it, it was sitting directly across the street. In 1998, we moved to our new home at 74 McCaul Street. Owned by the Ontario College of Art and Design, our completely restored and renovated circa 1887 building features 8000 square feet: 4000 square feet of Retail space on two floors, full warehouse in the basement and 3rd floor Administrative offices.
We are now the Art Supply Store of preference for Ontario College of Art and Design Students, Faculty and Staff. We continue to offer catalogue mail order to our customers across North America, as we have since 1983. We are very proud to launch our e-commerce site, allowing customers from across the globe to shop our entire on-line catalogue.
