University of Toronto at Mississauga
Quality Instruction

The small size of the UTM campus (9,000 students) and large number of faculty and support staff make it easy for students seeking additional learning opportunities and support. UTM faculty are educators and research scholars contributing to new knowledge. They enjoy exploring their findings with students both in and outside of classes.

Teaching Awards

UT faculty received almost 25% of Canada's prestigious research awards over the last 20 years, although they represent only 7% of all Canadian professors. UTM's faculty members have collectively won more Ontario Colleges and Universities Faculty Association (OCUFA) awards for teaching excellence than any other college or organization at the University.

Multi-Campus Opportunities

The Mississauga campus offers many programs and courses that are identical to those on the St. George (downtown Toronto) campus; others are unique to UTM. Returning students wishing to select courses at the University's other campuses may do so with relative ease, and students regularly use the intercampus transit to be part of the best activities, performances, tournaments, lectures, and events on all three UT campuses. Mississauga is conveniently located only 30 minutes west of downtown Toronto.

A great education requires student support services that help you focus. UTM is committed to furthering student success by providing exceptional services and resources. A special committee of students, faculty and staff, called Quality Service to Students, examines how essential support services like the Career Centre, Health Centre, and Athletics & Recreation Centre can be continually improved.

Library Resources

The University of Toronto at Mississauga's library is one of forty in the University's library system. Along with 350,000 local volumes, students have subscriber access to several thousand journal indexes, abstracts, and past exams on-line. UTM students also order in materials from UT's other libraries through a daily document delivery service, and utilize the expertise of UTM research librarians.

Academic Skills Centre

This innovative service assesses individual student's learning strengths and helps pinpoint areas where learning can be improved. Skill strategists work with students to identify critical skills for the student's area of study and provide strategies to improve academic performance. All Academic Skills Center services are based on a problem-solving approach to learning, used by the best professional programs.

Career Centre

While ensuring the student's academic success is the University's main focus, students are also encouraged to get an early start in career investigation and skills development. The Career Center offers career counseling, career resource library, employment services (summer, contract, part-time and full-time), job-shadowing, resume and interviewing clinics, career development workshops and seminars, employer panels and networking opportunities.

Computer Centre

Computer use is an integral part of a University of Toronto at Mississauga education. There are student computer labs in all major academic buildings, a large 24-hour center, and data jacks in every campus residence. This level of access makes it easy to use lecture notes and library resources on-line, and to participate in chat sessions with faculty and classmates about specific courses or issues.

Health Services

Students have access to a full range of physical and mental health services right on campus with nurses, physicians and counsellors. Health education programs and consultations are available, and the student health and dental plan covers many prescription costs and dental visits.

Disability Services

Students with physical or learning disabilities find UTM supportive, accessible and welcoming. A professional staff offers adaptive testing support and referral services to interpreters, technological aids, readers and note-takers. Interested prospective students should contact this service early within the application process for a needs assessment, at 905-569-4699 (voice or TDD/TTY).
