Doctors Paul And John Rekai Centre
As Canada's first multilingual, non-profit home, The Rekai Centre has, and continues to meet a need that is both real and immediate. The Rekai Centre opened its doors in 1988 to offer care and comfort to elderly citizens who have difficulty communicating in English. Research has shown that a large number of elderly Canadians are unable to speak English, or have lost their ability to speak all but their native tongue, due to age and illness. Many of these are drawn into a shell of isolation

The Drs. Paul and John Rekai Centre, located in the southeast community of downtown Toronto, provides long term care to seniors and disabled Residents. This area of Toronto is rich with a myriad of services (many of which are ethnic specific) within a small geographic area and which are easily accessible to the disabled and senior population.

We believe that every Resident has the right to determine what may, or may not, be done with his/her own body. The interdisciplinary health team will respect and abide by the preferences made by the Resident/their representative. Each Resident treatment and service shall be determined and planned with the Resident/their representative through an interdisciplinary planning process. Our "Wellness Program" will serve to enable Residents to live more independently, at a higher quality of life. The Wellness Program is integrated into all services at the facility and is designed to maintain each individual's optimal independence.

The Centre's services include:

-General long term care services 24-hours-a-day

-Palliative care based on a "Hospice Care Model" which best serves the frail elderly population

-A continuum of services for the care and treatment of the irreversibly cognitively impaired

-Extensive rehabilitation therapy provided by in-house Physiotherapist

-Increased complex care including enteral feedings, oxygen administration, catheter care, Dialysis etc.

-Respite care

We have extensive experience in providing services to a multi-cultural community and address diverse cultural and linguistic needs through a trans-cultural model of care. Recognizing the change in the requirements of our residents, the facility is proactive in establishing services to meet the on-going needs and holding firm to the principle of "aging-in-place".

Eden Manor
Welcome to Eden Manor, Toronto 's most distinguished retirement address. Originally built in 1910 by Eden Smith, one of Toronto 's most influential early 20 th century architects, Eden Manor stands out as one of Toronto 's finest homes. A strong effort was made to preserve as much of the original structure of this grand mansion as possible. Leaded windows, fireplaces and beamed ceilings remain, while modern amenities have been added to suit the needs of today's seniors.

The grand hall featuring Tuscan columns leads to a cozy library and a stunning solarium that overlooks the garden and patio.

Our residence was totally renovated in late 1994 and offers Toronto 's seniors all the modern amenities one would expect from a facility of this quality. The building has an elevator, is wheel chair accessible, is fully secured 24 hours per day and is equipped with an externally monitored heat and smoke detector system.

We provide excellent Respite/ Convalescent care in a beautiful home setting. Our caring and committed staff ensure the highest quality of care following an illness or surgery. We provide short term support in the best of surroundings until the return home.

Kensington Health Centre
The Kensington Health Centre is a not-for-profit health care organization focusing on health and wellness services for today's senior citizens, and people of all ages. We offer a multicultural approach that accommodates all people, cultivating a sense of belonging throughout our local communities.

The Kensington Health Centre evolved from the former Doctors Hospital, continuing the hospital's strong commitment to care. The new entity also affords access to the many assets and resources of the former Doctors Hospital further enhancing the level of health and social services available in the community.

Our long-term plan for the Kensington Health Centre has three phases:

Phase 1 - The Kensington Clinic is the existing clinical building, located at 340 College Street in downtown Toronto. This facility offers a wide range of medical and retail services and is home to the Kensington Eye Institute for cataract surgery.

Phase 2 - Kensington Gardens South is our 200-bed long-term care centre. This comprehensive new centre provides client-focused care in a home-like setting, supporting each client's right to dignity, self-esteem and independence.

Phase 3 - Kensington Gardens North is our most recently opened 150 bed long term care centre and an extension of Kensington Gardens South, providing the same client-focused care in a supportive home-like setting.
