Book Now to Hear Louise Adler

10 July 2007

Book now to hear Louise Adler, Publisher and CEO of Melbourne University Publishing, deliver the 2007 Redmond Barry Lecture on Monday 30 July. She will speak on 'Why Writing Matters', discussing why, paradoxically, in our image-saturated culture words seem to matter more rather than less.

The annual lecture commemorates Sir Redmond Barry's contribution to the development of Melbourne and Victoria through his work founding cultural institutions such as the Library, Gallery, Museum and the University of Melbourne. Leading cultural figures are invited to speak on issues of importance. Past speakers have included scientist Margaret Wertheim, singer and artistic director Robyn Archer, property developer and publisher Morry Schwartz and former managing director of the ABC Brian Johns.

The 2007 lecture will be held at the Library's Village Roadshow Theatrette on Monday 30 July, 6.30-8pm. Tickets cost $12, or $10 concession. Bookings are essential.
