Hear Curator Talk About National Treasures Exhibition

4 April 2006

A recent talk by Margaret Dent, co-curator of the National Treasures from Australia's Great Libraries exhibition, is now available as an SLV Podcast or audio file download on the State Library of Victoria website.

In her talk, 'Corsali to Chamberlain - An insider's view of National Treasures from Australia's Great Libraries', Margaret offers unique insights into the project's genesis, the challenges of putting it all together and the unique collaboration between the nation's state, territory and national libraries. She also presents some of the exhibition's highlights, weaving wonderful background stories into descriptions of the objects.

Margaret is well placed to talk not just about this exhibition but about library treasures in general. She curated the National Library's blockbuster National Treasures from the World's Great Libraries, held in 2001-02, which led to her invitation to co-curate the current show. Prior to her work as a curator she was Rare Books Librarian at the National Library, with the unique privilege of looking after more than 70,000 rare books from around the world.

To find out how to receive the podcast see our RSS Feeds information. Or visit our National Treasures: A Curator's View page for downloadable audio files and a full transcript of the talk.

National Treasures from Australia's Great Libraries is a free national travelling exhibition initiated by the Council of Australian State Libraries, managed by the National Library of Australia and supported by a range of sponsors.
