A price war has erupted around the launch of EA's FIFA 10, with Tesco flogging the footy title for an incredible £24.97.
Despite a recommended retail price of £49.99, other supermarkets are following in Tesco's lead, with Morrisons aiming low at £24.99 and Asda chopping down to £26.71.
Sainsbury's is selling FIFA 10 for £37, reports trade mag MCV. Cheap skates.

Online reports have already pointed to large queues outside some 24 hour supermarkets, and traditional retailer Gamestation and - which is selling FIFA 10 for £39.99 - promises to price match any supermarket as long as it's within ten miles.
Who ever wins the price war, gamers are the ones who really come out on top. Read our FIFA 10 review, if you haven't already.
I picked up my copy of FIFA '09 for £18 pretty soon after release, so I knew there'd be some good deals out there.
I think I'll need to wait until my friends decide to upgrade - most have said they won't bother straight away (what with other games like Forza 3 on the horizon) - but, I'm very, very tempted at this price.
I bought this game today after reading about this through the grapeview.... I agree the Fifa'10demo doesn't look much different to Fifa'09 but for under £25 is A MUST HAVE BARGAIN!!!
Lets hope they do the same for MW2 it would be a big FU to Activision and to the daft spanners that pre ordered it online coz they are too bone idle to move and get it themself.
GAMESTATION are chancers! Just been through and when i asked about the 10 mile price match the reply "its 5 miles and Asda are sold out" "What a bout Morrisson" i asked "we dont price match Morissons" Then a junior staff corrected his MANAGER saying they cant phone and check but they usually do. So i got £28 Then i tried to trade in Batman and the manager stepped in saying because Morissons dont trade in we wont accept it?!! The buggers wont be going back there Do your homework first folks its worth it
Got it last night / earlier this morning at Tesco. Knew from rumours that Tesco was going to be cheap. Nicely surprised that it was £24.97. Lots of people buying it then, and I live in a small city. A very small city. We have no game shops except Blockbuster or Argos.
I might go through Morrison’s on my way home, though they hardly ever have any games in stock in Camden aside from cack ones so I doubt they’ll have it, still it’ll make my walk home have the same amount of interest as if I bought a scratchcard.
Time to name and shame Gamestation claimed that they would price match LIARS they claim that the price match was within 10 miles but they wont do it bloody morons.....
Tesco online has it for the same price as well, all in stock, dispatched within 24 hours. You won’t get it this weekend but at least you don’t have to go to different supermarkets looking for it amongst the great unwashed!
Well working for sainsburys i can confirm, that we are price matching fifa 10 at the tesco price, so its 24.97 and with a discount at lot less aswell, 22 quid for a new fifa game, i'll play it next year, still playing 09 right now
If supermarkets are selling this for around £25 on release. How much are EA selling this to supermarkets? £10?
THERE IS NO WAY ON EARTH ANY "SANE" RETAILER WOULD BE SELLING THIS AT A KNOCK DOWN PRICE ON THE RELEASE DATE.
Very confusing?
I think that this is only a short term deal for the supermarkets, and they are probably selling it at a small loss, they would be able to absorb that elsewhere in the company and it gets people coming into the store and raises perception that they are an entertainment retailer…
It's probably a loss leader system where they make either a very tiny profit or a loss on one item, but how many people are going to buy a drink or a lottery ticket while they're in store? A lot I'll bet.
Like in cinemas, £3 for a coke? There's a massive markup on that.
Not sure if the offer is limited to certain area's but I picked up Fifa 10 in Tesco at St Neots for £24.97. Glad my £39.99 copy from Game turned up today while I was at work, now I can take to the nearest store and get a refund P.S Uncharted 2 & cod:MW2 cheap too tescos.....please!
i used to work for Game. They dont like discounting that far as they would have bought the game in around the £25 price point, so after shipping to store and staff wages, they would make a loss. If you kick up a stick or get customer relations on the phone, you should get the game at the price of £25. Just be nice about how you stick to your guns.

the tesco near me had only two copies to sell and so ran out =| thankfully though, there was an ad in the newspaper for asda selling it at £27 or something, so i took that to the local pc world and currys digital (whom both do price beat promises with supermarkets) and got it for just under £26
This whole excessive discounting by supermarkets works because they sit at the very top of the retailer hierachy, in other words they have by far the highest buying power, led by Asda and Tesco. A company like EA will be tied in to annual contracts that agrees the number of games stocked, advertising programs, in-store promotions and most importantly the price. Tesco will buy massive bulk and due to their more widespread overheads (as opposed to a game only store like Game) they can thus undercut everyone else. In addition they use tactics like walkthough sales whereby if someone goes to Tesco to buy a game they are far more likely to also go and buy other stuff in the store.
This is exactly why I won't pre-order MW2 as I have a funny feeling the big guns will be sticking it out cheaper, maybe not £25 quid but cheaper nonetheless, oh and if you think the titles matters it doesn't, to Tesco etc its just another number.
I pre-ordered at £32 but im still happy as the amount of time i plough into this over the year makes the few pounds difference meaningless.
Been playing it since the 1st but mostly 2-player co-op at work Im liking it so far but will find out how much its actually improved or not once i get through a good chunk of be a pro, manager mode and online matches.
I picked mine up from Tesco early yesterday morning. I got a head's up on HotUkDeals.com. £24.97. Well well worth the money. The first FIFA I've bought since 97 on the PS1. I was a diehard PES fan but this year's FIFA is a superb game, so much to do. Loving it.
