Nancy Marsh would welcome assistance in trying to find details about Thomas and Ellen HECTOR and their ancestors and descendants.
They had owned businesses in Ham SOM for many years - the White Horse Inn, Tone House and the Chapel Cottages.
Thomas HECTOR and his wife Ellen had two sons, Frederick and William who both emigrated to the USA, married and had families there. Nancy is keen to find relatives with names other than Hector because there were daughters who remained in the Ham SOM and Taunton SOM area - Alice (m.PARSONS), Ethel (m.WILLIAMS), Nancy (m.VERRIER) and Elise (m.BECK).
Any assistance that can be offered about these families would be much appreciated.

John S. Wason Jr is trying to find more information on Ellen (Nellie) WASON whose brother Albert was in the USA at the end of the 19th century. She served as Milk Maid and Bar Maid at the Red Lion Inn in West Pennard SOM, owned by William Naish (at the time of the 1891 Census). She sent a picture postcard of a three storey, double gable roofed manor house and grounds, with the title "The Elms, West Pennard".
It seems that she was letting her brother know about a young man called "Bill" whom she may have already or eventually married. The writing on the postcard reads "This is the house where Bill works, he looks after the garden, lawns and flowers and vegetables" and this would have been in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Whoever she married, there may have been a daughter Gwendolyn.
John would be pleased to have some advice and help about finding out about Ellen Wason, her marriage and any subsequent family. He would be even more pleased to have assistance in finding the ancestry of Ellen and Albert.

Derek Hanney was born 19 Jul 1928 in Bath SOM, joined the RN in Aug 1946 at 18y and served 7½ years, emigrating to Canada in 1955. Both parents died while he was serving and he would be interested to learn more about the family ancestry and to establish contact with what must be many relatives in England and elsewhere. His father was Albert Ernest Victor HANNEY (Bath fireman and Coldstream Guardsman) and his mother Margery nee THOMPSON who were married at the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul in Bath SOM. Margery resided at the time at 15 Westgate Buildings, Bath.
Albert was born at 10 Philip Street Bath SOM to Henry Charles HANNEY (cab proprietor) and Eliza Hanney nee CROFT. Henry Charles Hanney was shown as deceased at the time of Albert's marriage to Margery. Derek knows of a sister Doris Battenbury nee Hanney who lived in Bath, a brother Leslie living in Bitton SOM and an older broterh Charlie who lived in London ONT Canada. Derek himself has one sibling, a sister Brenda M. Warnock nee Hanney who lives in Canada too.
Margery was born to Joseph THOMPSON (railway platelayer) and Lily nee GILLARD, residing at 18 Denmark Road, Twerton SOM. She had one sister Edith FIELDING nee THOMPSON and two brothers, Joseph and George, both of whom served in the forces in WWII, RAF and Tank Corp respectively.
Derek hopes that this listing may bring him into contact with family so that he may obtain some background, further to the sketchy information he has.

Denise Roach is researching two wills from Virginia USA from the Roche/Roach family line in England.
James Roche died in 1652 at Queen Camel (aka East Camel). His father Robert was the Vicar of Hilton DOR and his brother Robert was Vicar of East Camel in the periods given in the table above.
Henry Roach was a mariner of Abbots Leigh (Ley) DOR who died in America in 1677. His will mentions another Henry Roach of Wapping MDX ENG and they were both shipwrights.
Denise' information came from Virginia Gleanings in England. She would appreciate any information which can be given about these families in England. If there is any Web site(s) which might have relevant data, she would welcome being directed to it or them.

Tony Cole-Hamilton has a gap in his family links between 1725 and 1782 and would welcome help. More particularly, he is interested to find out whether Lt. David WINZAR R.N. is one of the David Winzars in his family tree. Tony's late brother was presented about 1937 with a print of a naval battle between the British ship Monmouth and the French flagship Foudroyant in February 1758. Although outgunned, Monmouth caused the French flagship to surrender. The original print was presented to Lieutenant David Winzar who must have been present on Monmouth during the battle. It was presumably passed down through the family to Tony's GM Georgianna, daughter of John Winzar. Tony notes the name David early on in his family as in the table above and wonders if this Lt. David Winzar fits somewhere in the gap in his family tree. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Vernon Cook is searching for more information on Philip WESTERN, a Yeoman at Wookey SOM. He married Grace TIBBS at Well in 1776 and there were seven children, all born at Wookey.
The last one was James (b.1799) who married Caroline GLASS in 1821 at Walcot, Bath SOM and later married Rebecca HAW. In 1841, James lived at Tucker Street in Wells SOM; he was a shoemaker. In 1861, he lived at 4 Laura Place, Regent Street, Weston-super Mare as a Cordwainer. James and Caroline had one son, Peter Albert WESTERN b.1841 who married Georgiana LEE and they lived in Bristol.
Vernon would be delighted to hear from any fellow researchers of this family.

Judy Stone has family records which have been handed down about her 2xGGF Joseph TAYLOR and his wife Rebecca nee BLACKMORE who were married on 11 November 1822 at a place named as "Stoke Underham" in Somerset, probably Stoke sub-Hambdon SOM. Joseph was said to be born in May 1800 in the same village. Rebecca was said to have been born in 1801 there also. They had four daughters by the time they departed in early 1830, arriving in Jersey City NJ after a two-month voyage from England. Soon after, James Blackmore Taylor was born - Judy's GGF. The family moved to Ridgeway ONT Canada to live.
Judy would be delighted to find out more about Joseph and Rebecca as she has had much difficulty in locating their actual birth or baptism data, and the same applies to the marriage record.
There is also a family record that four Taylor boys left from Marston Moor, Manchester for America in 1642. Two returned to England after 1658 when Cromwell had departed the scene. The family has lost track of those two so that is another story to be followed in due course.
