Forza 3 released in Europe first

Racer arrives on October 23 in Europe
Europe's to get Forza Motorsport 3 before the US, Microsoft's just confirmed.

October 23 is the date European punters will be able to pick up the MGS racer, four whole days before North America's October 27 street date. Don't forget to boast about it on the forums, eh?

Microsoft's also unveiled 21-year-old Swiss racer, Natacha Gachnang as the European 'Face of Forza'.

Gachnang, who's the first ever female driver to race in the FIA Formula Two Championships (and we think she might've been on Top Gear once) is acting as a consultant on the game, giving advice on the track realism, as well as critiquing the sounds and car setups.

"What a buzz - the tracks, the cars, the handling - the attention to detail is incredible. Forza 3 is a car fans dream! It really feels like I'm right there, in the car, racing round the tracks, all in the comfort of my own living room!" she gushed.

A confirmed release date, you say? For a racing game, no less? How deliciously unique!

Sounds like the hyperbole is catching!

My idea of incredible is proof of life on Mars. Or world peace. Or an end to famine.

OMG a good game coming out before crimbo?

Are my eyes deceiving me...?
Posted by monty_79
Is it true that this is going to cost £50 at retail?
Posted by ParmaViolet
No...you can pre-order the CE for under £50 already.

:)
Posted by Mortey
Yay....and more yay!

I think the RRP has gone up £5 which is a tad annoying, but I am sure it will still be fairly cheap online.
Posted by monty_79
Yes, but the list price is still going to be £50?

Jesus, if I am not going to Pay £50 for MW2, I doubt very much I will for this. I think I will just wait for this to come out second hand.

Is this a new trend then, and from now ono, all games are going to list at £50?
Posted by Conkers
I think you may be confusing hyperbole with the wonderful world of public relations, the young lady is paid to gush good things about it, what else would you expect?

Everyday things can be incredible as well though you know, if you set the bar too high you’ll never witness anything you consider to be incredible, which would be a shame, and when you think about it everything around us is incredible really, your own body is amazing and BUPA wants to keep it that way. My apologies, I appear to have turned into an advert.
Posted by ParmaViolet
Jeez, I didn't know they'd bumped the price up, sorry about that - it's relatively cheap online, but it's the retailers I feel sorry for....they're the ones taking the hit.

Definitely not a trend I want to see every publisher follow.

:)

You can preorder modern warfare for 42.99 on shopto.net and forza 3 for 37.95
Posted by Mark240473
Watching my Katie being born was incredible.

Life changing moments are incredible. If Forza 3 changes my life, then fair enough. But the fact that people band these words around like no tomorrow, they lose their meaning.

The worst culprit is the 110% syndrome. Isn't 100% good enough anymore?...

It's great being a cynical old tosser!
Posted by altitude2k
What are ShopTo.net like? I've heard good things but for some reason the name and even the website (it's better now than it used to be, though) just screams out scam to me!
Posted by altitude2k
I think they missed off the rest of that clip:

"...now you'll have to excuse me, I need to pay a visit to my bank".
Posted by Mark240473
£42.99 is still too expensive, if you ask me. Cheeky gits.*

*The publishers - not Shop.to, who are supposed to be very good.
Posted by Mortey
They are very good. I ordered GH4 from them, turned up on the day of release.

ParmaV had his lost by DHL but ShopTo were excellent when he rang them about it.
Posted by ParmaViolet
»

ParmaV? - that's 'Sir' to you!

Yeah, Shopto are great...never had a problem with them and their prices are very good. I pre-ordered GTA4 and called them the day before release, I actually spoke to a guy as the cases arrived and he put a copy aside specifically for me - can't say fairer than that.

Posted by monty_79
It's a principal thing for me. It's not like the games industry is struggling at the moment, and chucking an extra £10 on top is a bit cheeky.

I think I will buy Fable 2 and Burnout Paradise, the pair for £30 at HMV. By the time I have worn them both out, MW2 and Forza 3 will both be available 2nd hand. Also, I will get L4D2 as well. I can't see that game being more than £39.99 at retail.
Posted by ParmaViolet
I couldn't agree more - it's basically the publishers squeezing some extra cash purely because they feel they can.

I tend to hold off buying games until they drop in price a little - I still haven't bought FN: Round 4 (despite playing Round 3 to death) and I'll wait until it's about £25. I may pre-order Batman: Arkham Asylum, but I'm not sure....I get the feeling there'll be a few pre-owned copies knocking around shortly after release - it's supposed to be fairly short, I guess it depends on the replay value.

OMFG a games coming out before the US date.
its a miricale.
looks like Lucifer will be comming to live with me, hells finally frozen over.
when metallica sang theres a devil living outside your door i dident think they meant that literally.
Posted by Mark240473
It isn't a great surprise that us Europeans are getting it first, as we tend to buy more of these type racing games. It is the same with that other racing game.*

*It's name will not be uttered in this thread...

Sod it...

Gran Turismo 5.

c'mon it was going to pop up at some time.

(Pop corn in the microwave, nice comfy armchair, ding ding, round 1)

Wacky Wheels?
Posted by Conkers
Do Gran Turismo games get released here before the states too? I hadn’t realised, that’s pretty decent though.

Why are we not allowed to say the name of such a good racing franchise in a story about another good racing franchise? Only mindless drooling idiots are unable to appreciate both, the type of people who jack their useless fat over keyboards at the mere mention of something against an electronic box they champion as some kind of cock-sucking idol.
Posted by shellster2
well that's told 80% of the people on here then

For price rises check this out http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/shopto-mw2-price-sets-worrying-trend it may happen more often than we think.

I can't believe they are starting to raise the price of games at this time. It's the greed of publishers, not the recession which is the biggest threat to the games industry at the moment imo. Also its no coincidence that it's the richer pubs(Activision, Nintendo etc.) who are starting to do this. They can give as many reasons as they want for doing it but the simple truth is that they are doing it because they can, and will get away with it.

Shopto are brilliant. Have ordered at least 40 games from them and they deliver next day almost 100% of the time for no postage if you order by 5.30!

Have orderd stuff at 5.15 and got it the next morning.

Also the only time a game did not turn up they sent a replacement only 3 days after it was late.

Also when I rang them there was no call centre you actually speak to a real person.
Posted by Conkers
I thought RRP was always £49.99 for new games, a quick glance through listings in play.com et al all seem to confirm that, even though they all sell them at £39.99. If you buy on the high street new released games for the 360 and PS3 always seem to be around the fifty pound mark.

I’m not defending price rises in any way, I just thought that was the status quo for some time.

What a brilliant game that was!

That made me chuckle.

Thanks for the read. It's company behaviour like that which increasinly has me turning to second hand copies, or waiting for prices to come down even if it takes months.

My birthday is Oct 22nd, happy days.

Interesting coincidence that that F2 driver is pretty fit as well

Gonna pre order from game probably try and rack up some reward points. Btw if you use Quidco.com you can get an extra 5-9% off.

unfortunately i cant see GT5 releasing during out lifetimes. Guess you GT fanboys will have to make do with GT PSP: The real bumper car simulator

FOUR days before the Americans... four days of racing, four days of accumulating some snazzy cars to sell at rip off prices to the Americans!!! Wonderful... almost makes up for the cost of the game. No damn it, I don't care how much Forza 3 costs, now that Codemasters make crappy arcade-physics racing games, absolutely no one makes a racing game for me any more. As this is my racing game, until the next sequel, and will last me until the next sequel with absolutely no competition at all I'd pay whatever the price is. Still won't buy any DLC though as I don't want to encourage gaming expenses that don't allow for a future second-hand value!

MW2 however is a different story, as it's one of several first person shooters arriving in the short term future. Still I'm not going to moan about it as the original remains one of my all time favourite shooters.

So I guess from here on in, forum discussions about Modern Warfare 2 and Forza 3 are going to be dominated by the increased price! Shame... can't we just concentrate for a few minutes on ripping off the Americans with overpriced cars in the Forza auction?

Guys can we drop the price whinging a bit? If we were all gonna have to pay the suggested RRP's it would be one thing however we all know that both on-line and leading grocery retailers are gonna ship these much cheaper, these are purchases I made in the last year and I don't see what has changed since then:
COD WAW RRP- £44:99 Price Paid- Asda £26.99
GOW2 SE RRP- £49.99 Price Paid HMV £34.99
Left 4 Dead RRP £44.99 Price Paid- Sainsburys £32.99
Posted by ParmaViolet
Yup - it's also worth checking sites like hotukdeals.com and find-games.co.uk.

:)

This game looks terrible!!!
Roll on the Mighty GT5 for Real Players!!

"Guys can we drop the price whinging a bit?"

No. If the RRP goes up, so does the price for it every where. L4D may have been £32.99 at Sainsbury's, but if the RRP was 39.99, it probably would have cost £28.
Posted by shellster2
for real player huh? is it out for iTunes and windows media player as well?
Posted by The_KFD_Case
Rationality and Objectivity just left the building. It's a shame SDF fanboys like you spoil it for the more sane PS3 owners.
Posted by altitude2k
Just c*nt off, nobody likes you.
Posted by The_KFD_Case
Agreed. It's akin to the frog analogy. A frog will leap out of a pot of boiling water. However, if you place the frog in a pot of cool water and then gradually heat it, the frog won't leap out even when it's boiling to death. The same concept works here; 40.00 pounds is the most I'm willing to pay for a non-SE version of a brand new gaming title and that's starting to push it. If it were to sell for 25-30 quid I'd buy more games when they come out instead of waiting for second hand games.
Posted by Conkers
Not sure that fits for console gamers like myself really, back in the cartridge days games were very expensive, so the advent of DVD gaming allowed prices to come down to a more reasonable price, it’s only now that there are signs of them going up at retail (even if the RRP has remained static), but then the e-retailers balance this by offering much better discounts than there ever used to be available on the high street.

So in that sense we’ve already been plopped in a pot of hot water, that was then brought off the boil to a more comfortable heat, and now they are attempting to bring it up to a simmer but some retailers are blowing on the gas of the publishers. Yes, that makes total sense in my head, unlike eating frogs legs with little spinal cords poking out, they don’t taste of much anway…

and there goes hitmanbazza under his imaginery friends name of ps3>360 lol he is a chav plague lol he is up there with svd as being the biggest ass on this site lol

At least Mr. Grasshopper has a margin of intelligence, even if he is a scrote.
Posted by voodoo341
The only racer I want is ModNation Racer. I think it's going to trump both Forza and GT.
Posted by The_KFD_Case

That historic reference only serves to underscore the concept of the frog in the pot. Since it appears some publishers are now testing the waters by turning up the temperature again in terms of pricing. That the price was once upon time much more expensive is somewhat irrelevant since a great many things were more expensive in the past when you account for inflation (never mind the real-term value of a physically tangible item). The price went down with the advent of DVD, and rightfully so since production costs decreased. Trying to charge more for the same now old tech is not palatable to my sensibilities as a gamer and consumer.

Monty, theoretically your point is true however videogames have been £40-£50 for years, I remember buying Starfox on the SNES for £45 yonks ago. My point however was that it is only relatively recently that the online and grocery retailers have re-set the market to the point that if you shop around you will get games cheaper, much cheaper.

Years ago this was not the case as the proximity to buy games from such a wide range of sources did not exist, neither for that matter did the huge second hand market fuelled by the likes of Ebay and Amazon.

The RRP is largely irrelevant if you are prepared to search a bit, it's not the games getting dearer that matters it is the fact that the retail landscape has changed.
Posted by The_KFD_Case
Speaking of RRP, another point I take issue with - although I do comprehend the appeal of it, and perhaps even the necessity of it at times for financial reasons - is the "magic" of converting currency symbols with ease while keeping the numerical figure. Back in 1998 I thought buying "Deus Ex" for the PC for ca. 45.00 US dollars during a stay in the US was expensive. Now imagine paying 45.00 pounds at the time (the pound was stronger then, remember)? That might well have equated 55.00 US dollars at the time and at that price they can keep the game. Furthermore, I could care less as to what the prices of games used to be in terms of them having been more expensive. I'm not OK with going back to those prices. There are indicators that certain games sell a lot more when sold at a lower price (imagine that!), so while that would result in a lower profit margin for the publishers and developers it is not inconceivable that their expectations with regard to investment returns can still be met due to a larger sales volume attributed directly to lower prices. I certainly fall within that demographic; I'll happily continue buying, and perhaps even buying more, if the prices are lower and/or I perceive I'm getting a good deal. Conversely I will relent and hold on to my money if I perceive it to be otherwise.

Point-in-case: "Tales of Vesperia" costs 39.99 GBP on amazon.co.uk which is more than I am comfortable spending on a single game as a general rule of thumb. The same game in high street retail stores where I live costs 56.00 euros which is the equivalent of 48.01 GBP. Now, add VAT and transport to the amazon pricing and the difference will, for once, be all but negligible. Normally I can easily save 10-15 euros on a game ordered from the UK compared to local prices here. Thus I continue to wait for a noticeably lower second-hand price or a clearance sale of the title. I can be patient and on this occasion time is on my side while the companies do not have the same luxury. :)
