The graphics look tremendous. I mean it doesn't look top notch gaming wise but I'm starting to think that it's under-rated just because it's from a movie. So, a must have then? if your wanting a 1000 achievement points or an easy platinum trophy then yes. GRIN games seem to be piss easy for awards. just a pity they suck balls hey, bionic commando was ok. Except that if you died you lost everything you had collected or done in a level. However in theory you could get every last achievement in a single playthrough. "I'll be back... to the shop, with a receipt"
Ha ha, very witty! My compliments. Right. So it's rubbish, huh? Completely not worth playing, yeah? Two and a half hours in length, so a complete rip off.
OK, so what shall we give such a rotten piece of .... oh, 4 out of 10.
So this is what an average game is like, is it? Not sure why this was critised in the review - 'a human-shaped Terminator endoskeleton can eat over 130 bullets from your heaviest weapon or two rocket-propelled grenades to the face as they walk towards you emptying their miniguns' as it sounds like its the only thing they actually got right, as anyone who's seen any of the films will attest, Terminators are notoriously difficult to kill.
The rest of the game sounds, predictably poop, and four hours, possibly less out of a full price game is a joke surely? There should be a law against such things. Its a shame movie games are almost always rubbish. Lets hope the film is better, although its still a shame Arnie isn't in it. That's just what I was thinking. Surely if there are no uppers whatsoever it should get 0/10, 1/10 or 2/10. 4/10 is 40% (good maths, eh?) which falls well into the 'almost average' category.
I've been reading reviews of games since the good old days of 'The One' for Amiga and even back then a game was 'average' if it got 7/10, good if it got 8/10 and unmissable if it got 9/10 or 10/10. 6/10 or below was a game you wouldn't touch.
I sense a list coming...
To me, a game like Viking: Battle for Asgard is a 6/10. It's average, nothing special but a bit of fun. The Orange Boxset is a 10/10 because of the value, variety and sheer awesomeness it presented. Braid was a 9/10. Even Lost was a 4/10. Too Human was a 5/10/ These are both average. I think a distinction needs to be made for the really awful games.
Just a thought, though... I'm really in Limbo :? with this game. On the 1 hand a 4.0 rating is Really Bad :( , but on the other hand I really like Bowling Shoes  . completely agree, viking battle for asgard is definately no bioshock or even gears of war, but its so damn fun!
its a shame that a 6 is considered a bad score as im sure a lot of people have missed out on some great games because of it, games that lack polish but make up for it with charm and enjoyment. there's no feeling like storming hels forces in midgard with hundreds of vikings by your side, so god damn awesome...
but the game still only deserves a 6 ;) |
