Planned FFXIII improvements listed

Here's how the finished game will be improved over the Japanese demo
The Japanese Final Fantasy XIII demo that launched earlier this month seemed to please fans, but director Motomu Toriyama has been touting a number of improvements planned for the final game.

A list of said improvements, which Toriyama has revealed to various Japanese publications, has been compiled by a Japanese fansite (via 1Up) for your convenience.

Here's the full list of changes, which we think you'll be rather pleased about:

  • Battle difficulty will be greatly increased. In fact, Toriyama expects XIII to be "the most difficult FF ever".
  • In the demo, party members are CPU controlled. In the final, you'll be able to issue them directives.
  • Continuing your "Chain" in the demo isn't very important in the demo, but will vital in the final.
  • The classic FF victory fanfare isn't present in the demo, but will be in the final.
  • Victory poses may be incorporated into the final; the matter is currently under consideration.
  • If the first hit of a chain kills an enemy in the demo, your character continues attacking air for the duration of the combo. This will be remedied in the final.
  • Snow is barehanded in the demo, but will have weapons available to him in the final.
  • Encounters occur solely from the front in the demo, but various encounter styles will be present in the final.
  • The final will have a level system.
  • The demo only allows you to control one character, but the final will have a new system for managing other party members in battle.
  • The final will have command shortcuts.
  • Selecting your target in the demo can be a bit of a chore; the final will have a more streamlined targeting mechanism.
  • The final will have an "item" command in battle.
  • NPC dialogue will be subtitled in the final. In the demo, there is only voice.
  • Sazh's rather bizarre battle animation will be altered to be less strange, and more "jolly".
  • The Time Gauge maxes out at 3 in the demo, but you'll be able to add more segments in the final through a new character growth system.
  • Summons will be present in the final. The mysterious "TP Bonus" that appears after battles in the demo relates to them.
  • Finally, the occasional frame rate drops in the demo will be fixed, according to Toriyama.

i may very well be out then if it takes the piss like Seymore did near to the end of FF10 when he would have 12 goes on the trot

Awesome, this game just keeps better and better. I think SE is going to have a good year with Arkham Asylum, DQIX and FFXIII debuting.

As well as any of other pleasant surprises like Deus Ex 3(if it comes out this year).

TP? I remember lots of TP from my days of playing FFXI, good times. I hope weapon skills are in XIII too, I missed them in XII.

Also, no stupid MP charge either please, I'll take MP regeneration any day.

The most difficult FF ever? Wow....I thought all of the early FF's, like 1 and 2 etc, were really difficult, so god knows how I'll fare with this! lol

The main storyline of every Final Fantasy has been really east so im looking forward to more of a challenage. the extra stuff in FF10 were hard as hell tho

Well FFI-VI were a lot more difficult than FFVII- but if you want a challenging JRPG you want to go with DQ(although there is other challenging series).

Just bring us the game godammit! PS3 has been starved of JRPGs and I'm starting to play PS2 ones like Rogue Galaxy and Persona 4. But please plz make it more like FF10 and less like FF12.

aww man, most difficult ff ever? i hate difficult games, dont have the time anymore, i like to play and enjoy. Hate playing for 50 hours and then stopping as boss is too annoying.

LOL!

What makes Final Fantasy so great is being 50+ hours and having epic battles with bosses

And what makes it so bad is that you spend half the game level grinding instead of progressing through the story.

There are far better ways to extend the gameplay length than resorting to this outdated concept.
