Final Fantasy sales hit 85 million

Square Enix details massive sales figures
Square Enix has revealed that global sales of leading RPG series Final Fantasy have reached 85 million units.

At a recent corporate strategy meeting the company also said that the Dragon Quest series has sold 47 million units, while the Kingdom Hearts franchise has sold 12 million copies.

Following its Eidos takeover Square also owns the Tomb Raider and Hitman franchises, which have shifted 30 million and eight million units respectively.

Big numbers indeed, and they're sure to be boosted by the release of Final Fantasy XIII later this year in Japan, and in 2010 in the west.

with 3 Final Fantasy 13 games being relased, their sales are going to be huge. The new Final Fantasy games look like their going to be great the type of game we havent seen since Final Fantasy 8

Didn't you like 10? Along with 7, it's in my all time top 5, They lost their way a bit with 12 though all right

I didn't like the plot of 12. It had no substance or any sense of connection with the characters.

12 had no plot, it had a good battle system but the storyline was so weak. 10 had its good points but 7-9 were alot better. 8 is my favourite cos its the first one i played

I needed a DVD player (cant use the 360 as such) and someone gave me a PS2 and a copy of Dragonquest. It was one of the best games I ever played! Anyone wants to see a Dragonquest game on the 360?

Neg, Dragon Quest is awesome but I'm happy with it being on the DS. I think a PS360 version would be redundant anyway as whilst FF has been about spectacle, DQ is not. FF is akin to a big blockbuster film whilst DQ is a low budget, indie film.

I've played all of them (including the old Adventure and Legends GB releases). FFVIII was my least favourite (along with FFXI). I never did like the Draw system.

Glad you enjoyed it though :)

Wonder if this includes all the ******** spin-offs like chocobo dungeon and whatnot.

SpoonyRedMage there's nothing indie or low budget about the Dragon Quest series, it's just a little more niche than Final Fantasy. Being a much more old school, hardcore RPG, it hasn't taken off quite as much outside of Japan, but it's still massive.
