New Alan Wake footage

Remedy's thriller appears at Comic-Con
New Alan Wake footage has surfaced after the mysterious 360-exclusive showed up at Comic-Con in San Diego.

The Remedy-headed "physiological action thriller" is finally primed for release on Xbox 360 early next year, though the PC versions looks disappointingly to have been left in the sidelines.

See the footage below:

Man, I can't wait to have this hooked up to my surround sound system!

BACK STONECOLD, BACK!!!
*WHIPCRACK!!!*

eeerrrrmm....what the hell was going on there?!
Posted by StonecoldMC
  .

What could you possibly mean by that Filty?

Are you trying to imply that I am a Fan of this Game or something  .

This Game looks amazing, the lighting is some of the best ive ever seen on a console and for those saying the 360 has ran out of juice, just watch that video.

Damn you Spring 2010! Its going to be a long wait (but worth it im sure!).
Posted by minimalistic
Looks promising, like a proper version of Alone In The Dark.
Posted by FiltyMonkey
Are you a fan? I never noticed!

This isn't new. This was shown in the Microsoft conference at E3!

I think it has been noted that I may have spoken about this Game before, ill need to check my post history to make sure but im sure ive spoken about Alan Wake in the past.

If I havent, im going to start now  .

Finally a proper survival horror game, this gen. (ok apart from Deadspace)
Posted by KMakawa
Yes, fully agreed. This was shown at Microsoft's E3 conference, and although CVG went (I remember seeing gav there, not sure), They have forgotten about it?.

Either way, this just brings to light(no pun intended), that Xbox 360 still has a lot to give, and although this may be a long-developed game, it still is going to be worth it by the boatload.
Posted by MrPirtniw
That. Looks. Awesome.

Hope it's actually scary though and not just atmospheric- ala dead space. I need more survival horror! I'd like to see a new Project Zero/Fatal Frame on the 360.
Posted by BattleMoose87
I just hope the finished game is going to offer a playthrough of more than 6 hours. How angry would everyone be if the game was too short after waiting all these years for it and getting hyped up over nothing but a trailer? I still don't understand the hype this generated from that one trailer. :?

That being said the actual gameplay is looking promising. I do want this to be good, but all my years as a gamer have made me into a cynical bugger. :)
Posted by Mark240473
That looked brilliant (must of missed that vid ) and very atmospheric. Another cracker for the post Christmas dinner!

I still hate the name though. Alan Wake, ffs...
Posted by StonecoldMC
Its about as subtle as Max Payne, still that's the Finns for you  .
Posted by spam23
I saw that footage shortley after e3. Still looks alright.
Posted by Mark240473
I can live with Max Payne because it wasn't as cheesy. However A. Wake is just wrong.

A. Bominable, in fact.
Posted by MrPirtniw
You're kidding? Max Payne is the cheesiest name ever... or maybe Max Power... I haven't decided yet. :)
Posted by Mark240473
Yeah, but Max Payne suited the noir style of the storyline. Alan Wake sounds like a fisherman, for some reason...

And isn't Max Power a car mod Magazine?

Game does look pretty sweet I wonder if it'll be released before I'm thirty.

Not to be confused with "A. Bdominal". :P

Not bad, good sir, not bad.

Back on topic: I'm somewhat torn about my intention of ignoring this title until/if it makes it to the the PC as had been planned for a number of years. I certainly wouldn't have bought a Xbox 360 just to play this one game, or any one game for that matter. Throw in other games and it becomes easier to buy in to. I imagine I'll hold out for several years to see if any word surfaces about the PC version. By that time I should be able to either buy the game at a cheaper price, or buy it second-hand and deny Remedy and MS any reward for pulling the plug on the PC in such a unclassy manner.
Posted by Mark240473
Don't be such an A. Sole.
Posted by Sleepaphobic
actually thts the 1st time tht game looks anything close to good for me. the animations are better and the sound seems pretty kl. the texture quality and resolution is appalling though but tht may just be the video itself. hope they stop being gay and pump out the PC version soon after or it turns out to look significantly better on the 360 when compared to the vid.

1 thing tht always annoys me though in these kind of games is tht the main character (a writer) seems to handle firearms pretty well. yes this is totally nitpicking but its 1 thing tht always gets me annoyed.
Posted by KMakawa
Max Payne and Alan Wake are play on words really, reason for the stupid names lol
Alan Wake's name plays a big plot in the game "Awake". For example.
Posted by The_KFD_Case
But what if he likes being 30 and A. Lone?
Posted by The_KFD_Case
A valid point, however, we don't know everything about Alan Wake's past and he is an American writer living in the United States. Access to firearms and gun ranges is far more prevalent over there than in the Old World (aka. Europe).
Posted by flash501
Very impressive, I'm finally letting myself get hyped about this game, I love the eerie look of the video, also someone said it earlier but I think it will sound outstanding on a decent surround system.
Looks like I'll be adding another game to the ever expanding list for next Spring. Seriously, it's getting ridiculous now.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
No 360 version but if you can handle japanese get a wii.

I'd like to see Fatal Frame 4 in english. Damn that game was soooo good. Why the hell Nintendo won't relase it outside of japan is beyond me.

Oh well at least Fragile's coming out over here.

Back on topic. I think alan wakes a good name. its got a b sharps quality to it. Funny when you first hear it than less so each time.
Posted by The_KFD_Case
I like the "B sharp" humor, however the internet strikes again! See below:

The raised seventh note (leading tone) in the C major scale. This pitch has no solfeggio representation because the actual pitch is the same as the tonic or eighth note (C) in the fixed do system. However, the note name B-sharp is necessary in certain instances such as the key of C-sharp major where B-sharp is the seventh note (leading tone) or A-sharp minor where B-sharp is the second note (supertonic). The frequencies of the audible pitches of B-sharp are notated below.

http://www.music.vt.edu/musicdictionary/textb/B-Sharp.html

In other words, the "B sharp" does in fact exist as a technical, if uncommon, necessity.

I think Monkey may have been referring to the Simpsons episode where Homer forms a barber-shop quartet and calls them the 'B-Sharps'....I think so, anyway.

That one was classic! "Baby on board" and the lip service paid to the Beatles on the roof top scene.
Posted by Sleepaphobic
very true. I always give the game the benefit of the doubt in these shady areas but it does linger in the back of my head once in a while.

At least silent hill made it feel weird for the civilian characters to use the weapons. it may also have been the fact that the combat was totally broken.
Posted by StonecoldMC
Now I dont want to come accross as an anorak here (obviously I am!) but Mr Wake was know to frequent the shooting ranges of America, purely to research his books of course.

Firing shots at half human/half dark matter creatures though? I think thats a new one even for him :D .
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
I always prefer it when you need to run and be careful when you fight in survival horror games its why i liked the new alone in the dark. Every fight in that game felt like one. Most of the time you barely survived. Despite its flaws it did at least get that right. in principle anyway.

Its the one problem i have with Deadspace. once you're properly tooled up all sense of fear is gone. you just stomp on anything nasty you might face.

Why i'm looking forward to the Silent Hill remake. Not being able to fight is going to make the nightmare sections all the more tense and the monsters a lot tougher. hopefully not frustrating as well though.

SHIT!!! Never seen this footage before, absolutely gorgeous, looks like the long wait may well have been worth it after all!

And Stonecold, you've every reason to be very excited about this one matey...have just joined the fan club myself. 8)
Posted by liquidsoap89
Wow why is it that the 360 starts getting interesting games NOW! Well we can hope that the pc version gets revived in the next year or so, I think I can wait.
Posted by marcofarlio
I bought my 360 in 2005 solely for this game. It's been a long time coming but by the looks of it, it's worth the wait!
Posted by AJB123644
To be fair it does actually look pretty good haha. That said it would be nice for it to actually come out on the PC. I think they could do quite well with it.
Posted by Jensonjet
I've read on a few occasions how people are excited about this game and can't wait for it to be released.

This is a geniune question, why? What are you expecting from this game that justifies your anticipation for it?

Admittedly all I know about it is it's a third person adventure, the hero's called ALAN! and he's a writer trying to find his missing wife, and his greatest weapon is light!! What do people know that I don't? I'm honestly interested to find out where this excitement is coming from, and what I'm utterly 'in the dark' about (excuse the pun), with this game.
Posted by Sleepaphobic
i felt the exact same way. it was like every1 was in this club and i was the only person excluded. looking at the vid it looks cool and i would base my judgment so far on tht. other people though were saying this will b a godly game, and they just watched tht trailer from a few years back which showed absolutely nothing.
Posted by ricflair
If Alan was based on Hunter S Thompson, he'd be ****ing handy with a gun and it would also potentially make this game very interesting.
Posted by The_KFD_Case
I think the "getting this game" bit is, for many, about the unknown mystery and potential horror that lurks just at the edges of their mind's eye when they contemplate the limited bits of information released about the premise of this game. It's what catches my interest at any rate.
Posted by Jensonjet
The_KFD_Case, that almost sounds like a recipe for disappointment. If every game were as I imagined and hoped I'd probably give up work, relationships, sleep and everything else that stops me gaming! I admit I'm really not into third person games, but can at least understand why people are interested in some. Whether it's because of environment or setting, or a specific genre or movie tie-in, but the interest in this game baffles me. For me third-person games completely lack the scarey atmospheric feeling you can build up with a FPS. It's just an opinion, but it always feels like you're watching a poor movie, or playing virtual pretend action-man playing the majority of third person games!

Sleepaphobic, clearly the game's not aimed at me as nothing within the couple of videos I've seen show me anything exciting or anything I would consider cool. Maybe people do know something the rest of us don't. All I'm interested in now is whether it fulfills people's expectations when/if it finally arrives!
Posted by chainsawgerbil
yeah ive seen enough to put this on my list of things not to read about along with final fantasy13 and mass effect2.
like people have said its that whole mystery thing that can be ruined by 1 simple sentence
"BRUCE WILLIS IS A GHOST" for example
it actually reminds me most of forbidden siren 2, but hopefully it will be the halo of survival horror, and no i dont mean that only the 1st one will be any good  just that it combines some of the best elements of the genre to make something special
i did think alone in the dark was underated till i got to the torch and 7 symbols bit later on, found them all but after faffing around with the torch for 3 hours id activated 4, gave up, anyone know if that bits as much of a game wrecker on the ps3 inferno version???? then again i did pay 4 quid for the 360 version, can change your perspective of things when u pay very little for them, its very odd how that game gos from very linear to free roaming and u dont actually realise for a while
Posted by chainsawgerbil
oh and best survival horror this gen for me is siren blood curse, followed by dead space, which is no where near as scary but a lot more fun
loved resi4 at the time hated resi5,
and i do hope in alan wake they dont give u all the answers, silent hill gave u loads of information and no concrete answers and that was the magic of it, few games inspire interpretation like that one, now if it only didnt play like crap.......
still awesome tho...............
Posted by Sleepaphobic
by no means does the game look like the greatest game of all time or anything. im just trying to get my hopes up as pretty much all survival horror games this gen were not scary or just not good (still have to go through siren though). the narration is kind of cool i have to say but i think this may be more action heavy than anything else.

and you are right abt 3rd person games not being as scary as 1st person games. i cant think of playing a 3rd person game and feeling scared. they have made me jump but thts not scaring someone, i'll jumpfor any stupid reason. I remember playing the original FEAR with the lights off, window open letting in a breeze, 1 foot away from my monitor and headphones on. At 1 point i literally said "screw this" and quit the game for the night(was around tht ladder part if any1 remembers. )
Posted by chainsawgerbil
doom3 did that to me but the scariest thing i ever played was the cradle level of thief 3, totally terrifying.

what i liked about silent hill 2 was that it wasn't BOO scary, something that the homecoming developers missed. 2 had a slow creeping sense of dread that slowly wore down your mind, after getting all the endings i had to sell it, made me feel like partially reheated crap
