Alan Wake plot hints emerge

But will the 360-exclusive ever be released?
New plot hints have emerged on the long, long-awaited psychological thriller Alan Wake, which should finally be released on PC and Xbox 360 this year.

A community manager on the official Alan Wake forums has posted an excerpt included on a promotional item sent out by developer Remedy.

It's written in the words of main character Wake, and reads as follows:

"The amount of pages keeps growing each night. There are also new edits on the old pages. They keep getting more aggressive. The story is rewriting itself. The protagonist is now my namesake, and his wife is called Alice. The most worrying aspect: the genre seems to be shifting. It's turning into a horror story. I can no longer be certain whether the hero can succeed or even survive. Apart for jumbled fragments of bad dreams and an oppressive feeling, I can remember nothing of the process when I wake up. But this morning, a breakthrough! When I came to my senses, I could smell her perfume on my shirt. I am close. I know it. I must push on.

- Alan Wake"

Not very much is known about the 360-exclusive's plot, other than that Wake's moved to a quiet Washington State town to help inspire his writing, later discovering that his words, incredibly, are coming to life - and he's not writing a romance novel, either.

Shooting and screaming follows, as you can see in this recently released trailer. Hopefully we'll see more at E3 in the summer.

I'm getting a feeling that this will finally be released this year. :D

I know more about quantum physics than I do about this game. I expect a big unveiling at this years E3.

And the sound of StonecoldMC welping like an over-excited American Journo.

I want it to come out just for his sake!

If it's being released on the PC, then it isn't a 360 exclusive is it, CVG?

Or does CVG not count the PC as a gaming platform anymore?

I'm sorry, but if my writings were suddenly becoming reality, I give myself 10 minutes before I've written a story where I manifest the powers of Superman, win the lottery, and have a porn-esque escapade with a cheerleader squad...

Being the resident Alan Wake Fan, there is one reason why I anticipate this title so much, Remedy! They are a little different to most Devs and that is one of the main reasons I respect them so much. Below is a press release they gave to a Finnish Magazine (so the translation may be a little off). Still Genius though!

"After the new trailer released in the fall there's again been some bad rumours about Alan Wake's future. The publisher is angry, they say, Alan Wake's going to end up badly! Is there a future for the writer, who ended up in the middle of a psychological action thriller, Remedy Game's Sam Lake?
"We don't normally comment on rumours, but I have to admit, that at Remedy we're very worried about Alan Wake's future. Even we only shortly figured out in just how bad shape the man is. We probably should've gotten worried when his disturbing actions against the press in New York were in the headlines."
"As you know, our current game project is based on the sequel (named Return) to Wake's previous best-selling Novel Departure. Our work with him before has always gone well (games, which are based on Wake's earlier crime novels). The rough truth has now been revealed to us: Wake hasn't been able to write a word after Departure."
"Unfortunantely Wake's agent Barry Wheeler has been able to keep it a secret from us this long. Wheeler says Wake has traveled to an idyllic small town in the Washington state with his wife to recharge his batteries, but several attempts to contact him have failed."
Thanks, Sam! Pelit-magazine continues to cover the story."

Sorry for it being so long but the creaticity into this tiny tidbit gives me hope this game could be great.

I'm with Stonecold on this one. Alan Wake has the potential to be stunning. The tech demos have been great, the story sounds creepy as hell (the hitchiker part sent shivers up, I'm telling you) and it's from the team who made the stunning Max Payne games.

If they can ever actually get round to releasing it, it'll be great.

Almost certainly.....damn - he's awfully desperate to make these odd little posts, isn't he?

In my opinion this game has the potential to be one of the finest released over the past 10 years. I would love to play it. I would like to buy it...So let's hope that MS drops its idiotic and stubborn insistence that "Alan Wake" can only be played with Vista on the PC apparently because it is "DX10". Nevermind that the Xbox 360 is incapable of supporting DX10 and thus the 360 version has to utilise DX9...just like XP. Will the madness never cease?

Can't wait for Alan Wake...He's the only reason I bought my XBox 360. When is E3 this year? May?

I must admit I was under the impression that the 360 could do a few of the features of DX10 as MSoft got an early/modded version of a DX10 card from ATi. Although with my addled memory who knows. :D

Highly likely...
Really, can someone not take a hint?
