Share this article: Digg.comFacebookGoogle BookmarksN4GGamerblipsdel.icio.usRedditSlashdot.orgStumbleUpon How clueless are Capcom, this could of been a proper RE2 remake easily. UC was so slow i had to stop playing it after 30 minutes. it was quite painful. :? There's nothing stopping capcom bringing this out and making a resi 2 remake as well. By the looks of things because of the work put into this it'd be really easy to do as half the work for its has already been done.
The fact that they are relasing the remake and 0 on the wii makes me hopeful that we might eventually still see a remake on the wii, or at all in that case. Although admitidly it looks good for an on-rails shooter it really is a shame they chose to do this instead of either a RE2 remake using RE4 engine, or a RE2 remake similar to the original RE remake on Cube.
I really feel that with the original RE Umbrella Chronicles, House of the Dead Overkill and the upcoming Dead Space Extraction that the Wii had enough on offer for fans of this genre. Oh god damn - anyone out there NOT wanting a proper Resi 2 remake now?
*sobs*
What the fell are Capcom doing - they seem to be deliberately avoiding Resi 2. Well done CVG. Yet another video clip that crashes my browser....
Although I would love all sorts of Resi remakes for the Wii, I would much rather Capcom put their time to better use. Like some original IP. Its time they started putting as much time into some new franchises and bring back the glory days of when you couldn't move for a brilliant Capcom title.
I'm sure someone will pull me up on this, but the last titles Capcom released that weren't part of an established series were Dead Rising/Lost Planet and they were amazing. there, there fella. :D
i was gutted when i heard about this game because it wasn't what i wanted (like 99% of the planet i wanted a resi 2 remake in the style of 4) but now i've seen it: i'm sick as a f*cking parrot.
it looks lovely.
what a waste of a certain multi million seller: i know people with ps3's and 360's who would've bought a wii outright for a remade resi 2 alone. then they heard it was 'on rails' and lost all interest there and then.
excellent business sense there capcom. That just sums it up for me. The only reason to decide on an 'on-rails' game is so they can chuck it out in their sleep. This and Extraction have just left me utterly frustrated. Maybe I shouldn't be so judgemental but, seriously, on-rails ****ing shooters. »
I love on-rails shooters, and by the same token, I'm bored shitless with FPS's. I personally think that this looks lovely and I'm looking forward to it.
Why is it that on-rails/light gun titles are suddenly nolonger seen as viable/proper games in their own right? It was never the case before.
Looks from the trailer to have had a bit of quality and effort lavished on it. You can already bet that it will be more in-keeping with the franchise than the Gears of War b*****d-child that is Resident Evil 5. FFS.
we're not going to get a proper RE2 remake for years now because of this. how did capcom think this was going to please any RE2 fans? i'm all for playing an on rails shooter in an arcade, or for a weekend, but it's never going to do the story or atmosphere justice.
*sigh*
i'll just have to play through RE2 again on the PC. it'll be ten times better than this. Well as Resident Evil shoulodn't be either of these, what's the relenvance?
Because it's not 1994? Time has moved on. Gone are the days when the likes of Virtua Cop, Time Crisis and Operation: Wolf are the pinnacle of gaming.
Resi 5 is NOTHING like Gears of War... Have you played either of these games?
As for the quality and effort, wouldn't you rather see that put into a 'proper' Resi game or remake? My FPS comment was relevant because I was stating that we are all entitled to our genre preferences. To me, on-rails shooters offer an enjoyable form of gaming.
You could level the same 'not 1994' criticism at platformers, FPS's, arcade adventures and most other genres. Minus the fancy graphics, no genre has changed intrinsically from the early nineties.
My opinion is that there is still room for quality on-rails shooters. Overkill was a hugely enjoyable (and funny) piece of entertainment.
Capcom never promised a whole new remake. I'm quite happy with a quality and atmospheric side-story, which is how this game should be viewed.
Yes, I have played 5. It borrows heavily from GOW and similar dumbed-down actioners. It lacks the atmosphere and tension of past games and just doesn't feel like part of the franchise. And I'm not suggesting they don't. However, the decision to make a Resi game an(other) on rails shooter is nuts. Yes, it can be an enjoyable form of gaming, but SO many people are after a 'proper' Resi game on the Wii, after the success of Resi 4, it just seems that Capcom are deliberately ignoring them/us. And now it appears they are 'wasting time' making games that relatively few want, certainly by comparison.
Actually, I'd suggest that 1996, which saw the release of Super Mario 64, saw an intrinsic change to platform games. Likewise, games like Goldeneye, Halo etc fundamentally changed the FPS genre.
However, this doesn't really change your point. That said, I think it's fair to say that certain game interface systems are seen as dated now. Point and click adventures, on-rails shooters, isometric adventures, 2D fighters - all of these are game systems of yesteryear. This is not to suggest that someone can't reinvent or bring this system up to date (just look at Street Fightet IV), but dated they are. i reckon this could definitely be a good laugh, probably great with some mates and a few beers - but to me, that's not the point. if i want that, i'd dig out house of the dead 2 on the DC (or source a wii). RE means a different type of experience to me, and none of the spin offs (gun surviver, chronicles) have succeeded in relaying this. That's what I'm saying Marty. How has Killzone 2 pushed the boundaries of the FPS genre over and above what Goldeneye was doing in the early nineties? It hasn't. Likewise Super Mario 64.
You don't moan about lack of progression elsewhere, but on-rails stuff should be resigned to the history books? Honestly man, I've got nothing about on rails shooters per se, but I so desperately want this to be a Resi 2 remake, using the Resi 4 engine. And I'm not alone in this desire.
Ironically, another favourite game of mine, Dead Space, is also getting the on-rails treatment.
I think my biggest problem with both of these becoming ORS (can't be assed to continue to type 'on rails shooter'v :)) is that NEITHER original incarnation was about the shooting...
Ah well. With enough noise about a Resi 2 remake, Capcom may eventually give in. Fair comment and I agree to some extent, but look at this for what it is - a side story/spin off. I never criticise something I haven't played. |
