Montreal 6 Rangers 5 (Shootout): It is impossible to believe that New York let this one get away. When Chris Drury buried his 20th goal of the year into the Montreal net at 5:03 of the second period it put the Rangers up 5-0 and appeared to turn the game into a foregone conclusion. But, Montreal battled back as Michael Ryder scored two goals in the second period to cut the deficit to 5-2. The......

Washington 111 Knicks 98: New York ended their winning streak by failing to play defense. The Wizards shot 57% from the field, a figure that would have been higher if they hadn’t gone very cold in the fourth quarter. The Knicks’ lack of defensive effort cost them what should have been a win. The game 30 different lead changes and New York had plenty of opportunities to get back into the game, including at 96-90......

Knicks 105, Wizards 93:The last time the Knicks won two games in a row, the TV writers' strike was only two weeks old. And this game came against a team that wasn't playing its fourth game in five nights. After jumping out to a quick first-half lead, the Knicks gave much of it back before recovering. Jamal Crawford had 29 points, including 6-of-7 shooting from 3-point land, but did see his free-throw streak come to......

Rangers 1 Devils 0 Overtime: This was one the Rangers needed to win and it showed. From the start of the game they played a smart, defensive style that gave New Jersey very few chances. It worked to perfection as the Devils only got 17 shots during the entire game, but the problem was the Rangers couldn’t score. Time and again Martin Brodeur stopped them and when the game went to overtime, it appeared likely......

Rangers 4 Pittsburgh 2: That’s not a misprint, the Rangers really scored four goals tonight. Scott Gomez got things started for New York with a goal 7:35 into the game. But, Pittsburgh came right back and tied things on a Sergei Gonchar slap shot. But, Sean Avery did what he does best, get under opponents’ skin and he goaded Gary Roberts into a double minor. Roberts should know better and his mistake setup Michal Rozsival’s......

Knicks 119, Nuggets 112: Isiah Thomas had his Knicks go toe-to-toe with the high-flying Nuggets, and they came out on top despite trailing by 15. Don't look now, but Thomas may have made a smart move in acquiring Zach Randolph. Eddy Curry is still overweight and Renaldo Balkman was still taken too early, but the Knicks put on quite a show for the Garden fans. And it didn't involve the fisticuffs of last season's......

Earlier this afternoon, we watched Scholastic transform Mercer Street between Prince and Spring Streets in "Harry Potter Place" in anticipation of the 12:01AM release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - early reviews be damned! Not only was the Whomping Willow ready, there were owls (stuffed), messages on the Muggle Message Board, and a copy of the book signed by JK Rowling. There were also already people on line to buy the book.......

A's 5, Yankees 4: After all the work the Yankees did to outlast A's starter Rich Harden and hold the not-so-potent Oakland offense in check, Mariano Rivera gave up a three-run walk-off homer to Marco Scutaro (he's a former Met) and the Yankees lost a series in the Bay Area. They could have easily swept the three games, but a tough extra-inning loss Friday night and an even tougher loss Sunday made them settle......

Yankees 10 Twins 1: Apparently, Alex Rodriguez should have come clean about his relationship with Derek Jeter years ago. Unburdened by no longer living a lie, Rodriguez has opened the season as well as anyone ever has, belting his sixth homer in seven games Tuesday night as part of a 10-run barrage by the Yankees’ offense. A-Rod got things started in the first and the other bats joined in later. Johnny Damon hit a three-run......

Yankees 10, Orioles 7: Yeah, you read the headline right. Alex Rodriguez came through in yesterday afternoon's game in the biggest way - with a two-out game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the 9th inning. It was his 2nd home run of the game. The bottom of the ninth inning went something like this: out, out, Robinson Cano single, Derek Jeter walk, Bobby Abreu hit-by-pitch, grand slam by Rodriguez into the black seats. Kei......

Nets 113, Wizards 101: That post title refers to the "Big Three" of Jason Kidd (26 points, nine assists, eight rebounds), Vince Carter (27, 3 and 6) and Bostjan Nachbar (23, 6 and 2). It could also talk about the 16 3-pointers pointers -- a franchise record -- the Nets hit in a win at home over the Wizards. Before everyone goes crazy about New Jersey beating the team with the second-best record in the......

Texas is thawing, the Northeast is freezing, and a sort of natural order seems almost restored to the Ist-A-Verse. Almost. Londonist HQ—that is to say, the city of London—was battered by heavy winds, making it a bad time to be a twelve-meter (nearly forty-foot) tall snowman. Still, not everyone decided to keep warmly covered. Meanwhile, back indoors, the Big Brother racism is now causing all kinds of headaches for international diplomats, and Londonist got into......

Nets 92, Bobcats 85: After letting a 23-point lead slip to seven, the Nets held off the Bobcats on the road. The Mikki Moore Watch continues -- he had eight points on 4-of-8 shooting -- but when the Nets win, it's because of the Vince Carter Show. He had 26 to lead everybody. The team is on a surge, if you can call it that, and it sits at 18-20. As Sports Illustrated pointed out......

-Wizards 113 Knicks 102: Well, Isiah and the Knicks didn’t take long to wipe out any good feelings over their last game. Facing a pathetic Washington team, New York gave a lackluster effort again in the loss. Eddy Curry had another good game, 22 points and 11 rebounds, but he didn’t have much support. Marbury and Francis combined for 26 points on 33% shooting with only seven assists. Gilbert Arenas ripped the Knicks for......

-Yankees 5, Blue Jays 4: After playing like they were going to drop their third straight game in Toronto, the Yankees' offense woke up just in time to win Saturday. Chien Ming Wang pitched a decent game, Alex Rodriguez struck out four times, and Mariano Rivera pitched an uneventful ninth inning for the save. Sometimes, Wang must wonder how good he'd be if his defense were even average behind him. Wang struck out only one;......

- Giants 6, Mets 4: The Giants and Mets waited out a rain delay before the first game of their single ticket doubleheader before San Francisco picked up the victory. Former Met Armando "Who Let the Dogs Out" Benitez picked up the save in a way that every Met fan can remember - walking two batters before getting the save. Of course, that's assuming he even got the save when he was with the......

That was a nice little Monday morning rain shower wasn't it? While the heavier rain has left the city, we can still expect showers and possibly a thunderstorm through tonight. Tuesday's grey, and Wednesday too. Thursday it will rain upon you. Friday, I'm in love. Saturday wait. Sunday is looking great. The cause for all this rain remains the same, what the Weather Service is calling an "endless persistent omega block" which is geek......

Maybe this has escaped the notice of the Knicks’ management, but their team cannot play defense. Gilbert Arenas took advantage of New York’s defensive ineptitude last night, scoring 46 points in just three quarters of the Wizards 110-89 victory. To make matters worse, Stephon Marbury reinjured his shoulder during the first half and missed the rest of the game. It’s too bad that Isiah Thomas is in Europe scouting players and therefore didn’t get to......

Don’t look now, but the Knicks are on a winning streak. Channing Frye scored 30 points in only 26 minutes to lead the Knicks to a 113-92 victory over Washington Friday night. While Washington is not a very good team, there were a number of encouraging signs from this game. The Knicks shot over 54% from the field while holding the Wizards under 42%. They dominated the boards 49-30 including 16-10 on the offensive glass.......

The Vince Carter trade was supposed to continue the reversal of fortunes for the area's two clubs: The Nets would climb back into the playoffs, while the Knicks would fade due to Isiah's over-tinkering. Well...not so fast. The Nets (now 26-35) were painfully reminded of the offense-challenged 2003 Finals last night by the Spurs. NJ only managed 28 points in the first half, and ended up losing 90-74. Vince Carter shot only 4-for-18 and added......

While the Knicks enjoy their stint as the best in the Atlantic, their cross-river rivals toil in last place with a 3-12 record. Last night, they performed as their record might suggest, falling to the Wizards, 95-68. Sounds like a thrilling game for those at the MCI Center. The loss was their 10th in 11 games, and the team was held to under 70 for the 4th time this season. The Nets also set franchise......

The offseason in the NBA has just begun and weve already seen the most dominant player in the league and the reigning scoring champion both involved in trade talks. This should set the stage very nicely for tonights draft. We told you to expect a lot of trade activity back in Version One, and theyve already begun. Last night the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards brokered a deal that has Dallas sending 6th Man of......

With the Pistons Championship firmly in the books, the offseason is now underway. The other 28 teams that stopped playing a long time ago have been feverishly preparing for next weeks draft for some time now. This draft figures to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory due to the flood of teenagers (a record 10 could potentially be drafted in the first round) and European big men that arent much older. This......

Last night, the Knicks posted an ugly overtime win against the Washington Wizards, 114-110. After the victory, there was no magic in the locker room. The Knicks looked nothing like a playoff team, and Coach Lenny Wilkens and GM Isiah Thomas let them know that. The Knicks, fighting for a playoff spot and playing at home, could barely muster a win against the Wizards, a team that will watch the the post-season on their TV......
