Open Letter From CMATCHA

Fellow active and retired military air traffic controllers,

The purpose of this open letter, is two fold. First to inform you of a new organization known as the Canadian Military Air Traffic Control Heritage Association (CMATCHA)

Our primary objective is to, collect, collate, display and preserve historical Air Traffic Control (ATC) memorabilia, photos, literature, and equipment. The majority of the displays, fundraising and work will be done in conjunction with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Memorial Museum at CFB Trenton. Our constitution, meeting minutes etc will hopefully be located at www.rcaf-atc.org in the near future.

Secondly, we are soliciting your support to assist with our new organization. Please keep in mind your support need not be of a financial nature.

A number of months ago retired air traffic control personnel in the Trenton area were approached by the RCAF Memorial Museum (official museum of the air force) to provide interior and exterior displays for their multi-million dollar facility. More information about this state of the art museum can be found online at www.airforcemuseum.ca

Over the last number of months local retired ATC volunteers have raised a few thousand dollars for the ATC Displays and have put together a formal organization known as the Canadian Military Air Traffic Control Heritage Association (CMATCHA) More about the organization's mandate and copies of meeting minutes can be requested via david@davidweir.com or by calling David Weir at 1.800.263.2177

How can you help? We are looking for the following:

ATC memorabilia and pictures suitable for interior and exterior museum displays

Humorous ATC stories suitable for publishing in a book that we will later sell to raise funds for our project.

Contact information for retired personnel who are not yet listed on the website at www.rcaf-atc.org or whose contact information is out of date.

Financial contributions, which are tax deductible, through the RCAF Memorial Museum which will be earmarked for ATC Displays.

A representative from each region and/or base that could be our point of contact to assist in promoting our project in their geographical area.

Finally, the Military Air Traffic Control Association (MATCA) - not to be confused with our organization, still has a few thousand dollars that we believe are not earmarked for any specific purpose. We would like to obtain these funds, in conjunction with our funds, to build a quality ATC Memorial Cairn to be housed in the air park of the museum. If you would like to see these funds used for this purpose please contact David Weir at 1.800.263.2177 or via david@davidweir.com to make your support known for this most worthwhile project. Please keep in mind that this exterior display will benefit all of our present and retired Air Traffic Control personnel and highlight our contribution to the air force. This cairn will be available for viewing not only by past, present, and future Air Traffic Control Personnel but also by the tens of thousands of museum visitors each year.

In closing, thank you for taking the time to read our letter and I again ask for your immediate support with one, or all, of the items noted above. Your assistance now will preserve our common heritage for generations to come.

Sincerely yours,
David Weir
Interim President
