NTL join the speed boost party

Posted: Monday 26th April 2004 by Sam
Hot on the heels of this mornings announcement by Telewest that it is adding 50% free downstream bandwidth to it's Blueyonder services, NTL is also giving away extra bandwidth for free.

The following table shows the changes:

Old SpeedNew SpeedPrice per month
150Kbps300Kbps£17.99
600Kbps750Kbps£24.99
1Mbps1.5Mbps£37.99

Please note that the 1Mbps product has recently been increased in price from £34.99, which is the price that the NTL website still displays. It is interesting to see that both NTL's and Telewest's 1.5Mbps products now cost exactly same.

Unfortunately there are no other details available (such as timescales), although the original release refers to the upgrade in the past tense, suggesting that it has already happened.

A 900KB PDF detailing NTL availability can be found here.

Update (12:20pm): The Register reports that NTL's upgrade is to occur in the summer. NTL have now released an official press release detailing their speed boost plans.
