ABC 15 Bio: Cary Pfeffer
Few people have been in the public eye the way Cary Pfeffer
has during the last three decades. As a news anchor and reporter in Phoenix
and Los Angeles, Cary has covered nearly every major news story and has had his
work featured on CBS, NBC, CNN and profiled in the New York Times.
Here at KNXV-TV, Cary co-anchors ABC 15's Daybreak Sunday newscast with Lisa Fletcher.
Professional History:
1999 . 2OO2 Main News Anchor . KPHO TV Phoenix
Winner of the Anchor of the Year Emmy award, Cary led an 80 person newsroom as anchor
of the 5, 6 and 10 pm newscasts. In addition, he provided live coverage of the national political
conventions as well as twice interviewing President George W. Bush.
Cary also worked closely with KPHO's sales staff, helped boost sales and increased the
visability of the television station, while broadcasting nightly to more than 80,000 households.
Cary also hosted five town hall meetings held all across the Phoenix area. The forums
discussed everything from growth to education to domestic violence, with Cary acting as facilitator.
Sometimes that involved controlling a combative panel of experts or audience members, while
still keeping the discussion on point.

Living in Los Angeles during one of the most turbulent times in its history proved to be quite
an experience. From the Northridge Earthquake to the Malibu Fires to the O.J. Simpson case,
Cary covered the big stories, and wrote and anchored an award winning documentary in Vietnam.

Cary provided political coverage, produced election night newscasts and offered analysis
during four different administrations of Arizona State government. That work included the first
impeachment of a sitting governor (Evan Mecham) in more than 60 years of U.S. history. There was
also the AZScam case, the Keating 5, the Los Angeles prosecution of Charles Keating, the L.A. riots,
both national political conventions of 1988 and 1992 as well as his first trip to Vietnam
to profile American war veterans who were returning to the country as tourists.

From covering the Phoenix City Council to reporting from the helicopter on all corners
of the state, Cary saw the beginnings of the boom that Arizona has experienced over the last
20 years. Cary covered a business beat as well as offering award winning work on
¡°Arizona Highways¡± feature stories.

Cary was awarded Omaha's Key to the City after years of outstanding reporting, covering
city and state government including Bob Kerrey's first venture in politics as Governor. Cary hosted
PM Magazine from 1980 to 1982 and work from his tenure was featured on the program nationally.

Cary's college years included various professional level jobs and internships while working
toward a Journalism and Mass Communications degree at Creighton University in Omaha.
He graduated from Creighton in 1979.
Personal:
Cary lives in Phoenix, is married and has three children.
His family is his focus, but in his spare time he reads and plays
an occasional round of golf.
Late at night you may also see his face suddenly surface
on your television screen. He has appeared on several network
television shows, including The X Files.
