Bills brace for QB controversy
| | Phillips says Johnson is still his guy at QB. |
After their game on Sunday, head coach Wade Phillips said quarterback Rob Johnson would gain his starting job back when he got healthy again. "It should be a short-term situation," Phillips told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. But store it away: If Doug Flutie and the Bills beat the unbeaten Vikings this week, and the Jets (now 5-1) the next, it's hard to imagine Flutie getting sent back to the bench.

Johnson out 2-4 weeks

Johnson |
Quarterback Rob Johnson was knocked out of a game with an injury for the third time this season. This time, however, it appears that Johnson won't be ready for the next game. Johnson is expected out 2-4 weeks
with a seperated shoulder. Doug Flutie, who marched the Bills down the field for their game-winning field goal in overtime, will take over for Johnson.
Murphy: Flutiemania is back
So it wasn't exactly a decision to bring in Doug Flutie. Rob Johnson got hurt. So what, I say? Any excuse to dust off my No. 2 jersey, grow my hair longer in the back and break out my cardboard cutout (you know, the one of Flutie that says "You Must Be This Tall To Kick Ass in the NFL!") is a good excuse. My man led the Bills to a win, which would be a lot cooler story if they hadn't played that JV squad from San Diego.
