 |  | | Vellum deed being the sale of property in Philadelphia for 120 Milled Silver Dollars - 1798 | Vellum deed being the sale of property in Philadelphia for 120 Milled Silver Dollars dated March 10, 1798 from Stephen Payran to Nicolas Marvereaw. Property was located between Walnut Street and Locust, (between Delaware 12th and 13th streets)...next to Dean Alley. Document is signed by Stephen Payran (Hatter), and Joseph Bird as Justice of the Peace, Thomas Carpenter as a Witness, and is over 212 years old. Also signed in the reverse by Recorder of Deeds City of Philadelphia, Edwan Fox?) In 1835, Stephen Payran, Jr. (1804-77) the son of the person who sign this document, became clerk of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He moved to California in 1848 and by 1851 was President of the San Francisco Vigilante Committee of 1851, and two years later, headed the Vigilante Committee of Petaluma, California, where he was called "Judge Payran." Payran Street in Petaluma is named for him. Document is in fine condition.
