slv21.com - A New Website for a New Era

31 October 2005

The State Library of Victoria launched a new website today. slv21.com features a series of presentations highlighting some of the online services and digital programs being developed at the Library.

'The impact of new technologies in the past 10-15 years has created a challenging environment, not only for this Library but for libraries all over the world', says CEO and State Librarian, Anne-Marie Schwirtlich.

As a consequence libraries are having to reinvent themselves to meet the needs of the 21st-century user, changing their thinking about the way material is collected and stored, and services are delivered.

The State Library has already taken some important steps to ensure it is well placed to meet the challenges of the digital age. Some of these initiatives are featured on the new website.

It is one way of showing people 'how we are working today to build a library that will meet the future needs of all Victorians', says Ms Schwirtlich.

The website includes Flash animations, video and audio, and is best viewed using a broadband connection.

If you don't have broadband access or Flash 7 you can still access the website. However, you will be unable to view some of the presentations as they were intended. A better option may be to access the text-only version of slv21.com
