Library Launches New-style Search

28 September 2009

The State Library of Victoria has launched a new-style Search that enables Library users to search across all the Library's collections in one easy, powerful search.

The new-style Search helps Library users find exactly what they are looking for in the Library's collections by providing numerous ways to limit search results, and suggesting related resources and other relevant searches. It is especially helpful for locating articles, as it allows researchers to search for articles across many databases at the same time.

A new feature called 'eShelf' gives Library users their own personal workspace, where they can save their search results, store items for later use and add their own notes. Users can also add tags and ratings to items, write book reviews and share comments.

The new-style Seach is a component of the Library's slv21 project, which aims to increase online services and provide more digital access to its unique collections. As part of this project the Library has developed digital versions of many of its collection items, and an online viewer that enables users to view items with enhanced functionality. Another valuable feature of the project is the recently-launched Victorian Government Gazette website, an online archive of public notices dating from 1836.
