Today in Ballarat, the Premier announced the construction of a new, purpose-built store for the Library's offsite collections.

A partnership between the State Library of Victoria and the University of Ballarat has resulted in plans for a state-of-the-art, offsite storage and preservation facility. This facility, to be built within a year at the Mt Helen Campus of the University, will house a large part of the periodicals, book stock and newspaper collection in a climate-controlled facility, with fire prevention and security systems.

‘This new building will provide the best possible storage,’ said State Librarian and CEO of the Library, Anne-Marie Schwirtlich. ‘Soon we will have space not only for current offsite collections, but ample room for future growth.’
