2006 Creative Fellowships Announced

23 June 2006

Australians at war, early settlement in Melbourne, child performers, vaudeville and ideas of belonging are some of the research themes to be undertaken by the recipients of the 2006-07 State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowships.

The Creative Fellowship program is funded by the State Library of Victoria Foundation and awarded annually by the State Library on the advice of an independent committee of the Library Board of Victoria. It encourages the scholarly, literary and creative use of the Library’s rich collections to generate new works. This year $112,500 will fund nine Creative Fellowships for a period of three months. Each fellow will receive a stipend of $12,500.

The 2006-07 Creative Fellowship recipients include authors Chloe Hooper and Kirsty Murray, playwrights Sarah Cathcart, Christopher Kohn and Lally Katz and cartoonist Judy Horacek. Visual artists Bruno Leti and Dr Julie Anne Gough are also among the recipients.

Also announced with the 2006 Creative Fellowships is the Redmond Barry Fellowship. This award, worth $20,000, has been made available jointly by the University of Melbourne and the State Library of Victoria. It commemorates the laying of the foundation stones for both institutions by Sir Redmond Barry, and is designed to facilitate use of the extensive collections of both organisations.
