The Summer Read is Launched
20 November 2007
The Library's second annual summer holiday reading program was launched today by Rosemary McKenzie, the wife of Victorian Premier, John Brumby.
The guest list included the Hon John Cain and Summer Read authors including Michelle de Kretser, Garry Disher and Alex Miller. Readings were given by Summer Read shortlist authors Diana Georgeff, from her book Delinquent Angel, and Max Barry, from his book Company.
The Summer Read encourages Victorians to take a break with a great Victorian book, using a recommended shortlist of 20 local books as a starting point.
A key component of the program is public voting for the award of favourite summer read, based on the shortlisted titles. Votes can be entered until 1 February, via SMS, the online voting form or by using the voting form in the brochure (available from all Victorian public libraries and the State Library). Last year Elliot Perlman's Three Dollars topped the voting.
