Library Dominates Museum Awards

19 July 2007

The Library's touring program Travelling Treasures took out the prestigious 'Category one' award (staff of seven or more) at the recent Victorian Museum Awards, on a night dominated by State Library entries. Other nominees included the Shrine of Remembrance Adopt an Ex-Service Organisation program, and the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne touring exhibition Hidden in Plain View.

Three other Library activities were nominated in the category - the joint publishing program, the Heroes and Villains exhibition and the Press Dress restoration.

Samantha Tidy, Travelling Treasures Program Manager, accepted the award on behalf of the Library and praised the extensive and expert collaboration of the numerous individuals and divisions involved in the win.

The Victorian Museums Awards recognise all areas of museum practice, including Exhibitions and Public Programs, Collection Care, Management, and Exceptional performance by staff and volunteers who work in public museums.

This is the 10th year that Museums Australia (Victoria) have profiled and awarded museums, their people and their programs.

More information on the Victorian Museum Awards can be found on the Museums Australia website.
