Celebrate Law Week 2006 at the Library

16 May 2006

Celebrate Law Week 2006 at the State Library of Victoria between 21 and 27 May 2006. A range of free activities has been organised to promote better understanding of the law, the legal system and the legal profession.

Get to know the Library's Law Collection in an orientation tour on 22, 24 and 26 May 2006 between 12pm and 1pm. The Library holds the largest publicly accessible collection of Victorian and Australian government publications and law resources. As well as legislation and law reports there are many plain-language resources, such as descriptions of famous trials, biographies and histories.

If you prefer to do your legal research at a computer, join our learning session on how to find legal information on the internet and databases. This will be held on 23 and 25 May 2006 between 12 and 1pm.

The Library is also the venue for three other Law Week 2006 events. Paul Chadwick, Victorian Privacy Commissioner, will present the lecture 'The value of privacy - what it's worth' on 23 May. Year 9-12 students can discover how to sort out mobile phone and credit disputes at an interactive event on 24 May. On the same day, the Victorian Law Reform Commission will present a discussion for VCE students on its review of sexual offences law and its treatment of victims.
