Inkys Shortlist Announced

13 October 2009

The ten books shortlisted for the third annual Inky Awards are now live on the State Library of Victoria's youth literature website, insideadog.

The Inkys are the only teen book awards in Australia where young readers decide who wins. Readers aged 20 and under are encouraged to read the shortlisted novels and vote for their favourite on insideadog by 20 November.

Local authors Richard Harland, Simmone Howell, Randa Abdel-Fattah, Adrian Stirling and David Metzenthen are shortlisted for the celebrated Golden Inky for an Australian book. The winner will receive $2000 in prize money.

Nominees for the Silver Inky, for an international book, are John Green, Sherman Alexie, Suzanne Collins, Mal Peet and Mariko and Jillian Tamaki.

As well as voting in the Inkys, young readers can enter the Creative Reading Prize by sending in a creative response to a book they love. Entries can take any format – short story, poem, video, song or even cupcake!

The winners of the Golden and Silver Inkys and the Creative Reading Prize will be announced at the State Library of Victoria on 26 November 2009.

The Inky Awards and the insideadog website were founded by the Library's Centre for Youth Literature to promote reading for pleasure among teenagers.
