Brand-new Shopping Exhibition

12 November 2009

From early Melbourne's ornate arcades to the outer-suburban shopping malls of the 1970s, 'til you drop looks at how we have changed shopping, and how it has changed us.

The exhibition, which runs from 11 December 2009 to 31 October 2010, brings together over 100 years of ephemera, including wartime ration cards, Buckley & Nunn shopping receipts and sketches of 1920s flapper dresses.

The exhibition also includes a short film exploring Melbourne's hottest shopping spots.

A series of exciting events will run in conjunction with 'til you drop. A pre-Christmas craft market showcasing handmade pieces by Melbourne artists will be held on Saturday 19 December. The exhibition's curator, Jane Rhodes, will conduct tours of the exhibition during its opening weekend and in March as part of the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

A number of talks will be held, including 'Melbourne: the making of a shopping mecca', 'Fashioning Melbourne' and 'The changing Melbourne table', which will run in conjunction with the 2010 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
