Entries Invited for 2006 Premier's Literary Awards

Applications are invited for the 2006 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. These prestigious awards, administered by the State Library of Victoria, recognise excellence in Australian writing and in contributions to the development of Australian culture.

A total of $195,000 will be awarded to winners in 11 categories, including fiction, non-fiction (the Nettie Palmer Prize is Australia’s richest annual prize for non-fiction), poetry, essays, screenplays, drama, history, journalism (the John Curtin Prize is Australia's richest prize for journalism) and Indigenous writing.

The Awards shortlist will be announced on Friday 11 August, with the winner to be announced at a dinner at Zinc, Federation Square on Monday 4 September.

The closing date for entries is Friday 12 May.
