Library Fellowship Recipients Announced

The State Library has announced the recipients of a prestigious suite of Fellowships, worth a total of $165,000. The Fellowships will assist Australian writers, academics, artists, composers and researchers in their creative and intellectual endeavours.

Eight Creative Fellowships worth $12,500 each have been awarded. The recipients include writer Michael Gurr, artist Tom Nicholson and historian Ross McMullin. Artist Juan Davila received a three-month Honorary Creative Fellowship.

The inaugural La Trobe Society Fellowship, worth $25,000, was awarded to scholar Dr Francis Thiele, who will produce a case study of Superintendent La Trobe's management of the Port Phillip Aboriginial Protectorate.

Another inaugural award, the $20,000 Georges Mora Foundation Fellowship, was won by artist and multimedia lecturer Trinh Vu. She receives a stipend, access to Library resources and and the use of studio facilities in Paris.

The 2007 recipient of the Redmond Barry 1854 Fellowship is writer and bookseller Kristin Otto. She will use the award to work on Capital: Melbourne when it was the capital city of Australia, to be published by Text Publishing in late 2008.
