Mr Tulk Cafe Open for Business

6 June 2006

Mr Tulk, the Library’s eagerly awaited new cafe, is now open for business, providing visitors with a casual dining experience in a handsomely renovated space.

Peter Van Haandel, Michael Benko and Andrew Kubale, former head chef of Melbourne Wine Room, head up the licensed cafe espresso bar. The team are serving a variety of dishes from the kitchen for breakfast and lunch, as well as baguettes, toasted flatbreads and other lighter fare. Snacks and pastries, and drinks including coffee, soft drinks, wine and spirits are also on offer.

The cafe is named after the Library's first Chief Librarian, Mr Augustus Henry Tulk, who served between 1856 and 1873.

Mr Tulk is open from 7am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, 7am to 7pm Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturday. It is located on the ground floor of the Library's north-west wing, accessible from both La Trobe Street and our front foyer. Drop by and get better acquainted next time you visit the Library.
