Commonwealth Writers' Prize Events Begin

An open-air Reading Relay will kick off the State Library of Victoria's 2006 Commonwealth Writer's Prize program of events. Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and other favourite characters will be brought to life at the Winnie-the-Pooh Reading Relay on Thursday 9 March.

Among those lending their voice to proceedings are football legend Ron Barassi, authors Peter Craven and Dorothy Porter, actor Bud Tingwell, chef Guy Grossi, newsreader Jo Hall, Commonwealth Writers' Prize authors and host, William McInnes.

Other events include Regional Author Tours, an evening of Pub Grub and Chatter and al fresco Upfront Readings on the Library forecourt lawn. The winners of the 'Best Book' and 'Best First Book' awards will be announced at a ceremony at the State Library on Tuesday 14 March.
