Super Competition Starts Today!

4 December 2006

To celebrate our Heroes & Villains exhibition, the Library is running an online comics-themed competition for kids. Called 'I Need a Hero!', it starts today, and gives 5-18 year-olds the chance to win by creating their very own superhero and sending it into cyberspace.

Kids simply need to draw, paint, sculpt, digitally create or somehow conjure up their own unique vision of a male or female superhero. A jpg image of their creation along with a few words of description then needs to be uploaded to the 'I Need a Hero!' website.

Entries will be published online for public viewing, and acclaimed comic illustrators Doug Holgate (Laike, Flight) and Bernard Caleo (Cardigan Comics, Tango) will review entries and offer feedback. They will also judge the winning entries.

Best original female and best original male superhero awards are up for grabs. In addition, the judges will select the best features from 10 entries to combine and create the 'ultimate female and male superhero'. Entries close on 4 February. Prizes include gift vouchers from Minotaur Books and framed prints of the winning creations.
