Disrupted Access to Heritage Collections from September 2005

1 September 2005

As a result of the move of collections to the new Ballarat offsite store, the Library is upgrading and extending its onsite storage for heritage collections. The upgrade will allow for improved storage of rare and original historic materials. Storage space will be doubled, with an additional 3.5 kilometres of shelving.

While access to the collections will be maintained, some material from the following collections may be unavailable for short periods between September 2005 and March 2006:

  • Australian Manuscripts
  • Pictures
  • Rare Books.

To minimise the impact of these short-term interruptions to retrievals, users should order material well in advance. There may also be delays or periods of unavailability of material from the Pictures Collection required for photographic copying.

During this time, users should phone the relevant heritage collection (on the numbers below) before 1pm on weekdays to obtain up-to-date information about collection availability.
