NPD data has shown that Final Fantasy XIII has sold twice as many copies on PlayStation3 as it has on Xbox 360.
Final Fantasy XIII marked the first time a Final Fantasy game had received a simultaneous console launch on a Sony console along with that of its rivals.
NPD data shows that the PlayStation3 version sold 828,000 copies compared to Xbox 360's 493,000 copies. We're not offering any comment on this one because we're sure there will be plenty of banter in the comments section below...
The ps3 version isn't heavily compressed like the 360 version. It's also seen as a sony game, it has a lot of fans from previous versions of the game. I'm still amazed it even turned up on 360 though.
If i were to buy it, it would be on my ps3 as well. But i lost interest in FF games a long time ago.
It was a simple choice for me. 1 disc with uncompressed data beats three discs of heavily compressed data.
Plus, Final Fantasy IS a Sony game. End of. It's heritage.

I imagine that was how it was for most people who bought the game. If I was to get it Id certainly got it for the Ps3, Id only have got it for the 360 if thats all i had.

The best thing is the ps3 version probably outsold it by more than that as those numbers are obviously only american sales or european sales as the ps3 version has sold well over 2 million copies worldwide so far

As has been said, it's unsurprising that it sold more on PS3, as that is it's 'home console' so to speak. That said, I'm quite sure Square would defend the decision to go multiplatform, as the 360 sales figure is still substantial.

Pretty sure it's only 3 discs and surely the gameplay is the same on both consoles. But yeah cutscenes aren't wonderful on the 360.

How many people are going to have the patience to play for 10+ hours before a game gets good? I don't think I'd have the patience to do that even if the final two thirds were the best gaming experience ever.

You're obviously not aware that square-enix finished the ps3 version before they started working on the 360 one, or that senior members of the team have stated how much more time and effort it'd take to make a final fantasy akin to the ps2 releases in HD. So really the way the game turned out has nothing to do with the 360.

For me, PS3 was clearly the better version, just like the 360 has better versions of Bayonetta and the Orange Box for example. I didn't buy it though, because it reviewed crap.

Definately what with pretty much every battle for the first 20 or so hours being press X to win and even after that after using libra at the begining of any battle all you have to do is keep hitting auto attack and the game plays itself. Oh and if you're dieing that's ok make someone a medic. guess what you win!!!!
Compared to the likes of Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon Last Remnant and Resonance of Fate FFXIII is an RPG for monkeys.
The characters are unlikeable, the story is dull and predictable and the world is beautiful, but you are just dragged through most of it untill you get to grand Pulse.
when it gets marginally better but over all FFXIII apart from the graphics is mediocre and i played the PS3 version BTW!
Had to have a chuckle at the sheer number of SDF wallies in here (they love their lists). That's great that you guys enjoyed Final Fantasy- but as an owner of both 360 and PS3- I haven't purchased it for either console. Namely because Final Fantasy has gone from being one of my favourite games series to an absolute pile of turd. I'm waiting for the price to come down before I give this one a go... but I've only heard that it's boring. Thank god for mass Effect 2, eh?

Also, I consider those sales figures relatively low for such a high profile franchise. The fact that it is such a long standing, and IMO a tired, franchise may partly explain this; combine that with what many seem to consider monotonous game play and it all begins to make sense.

The recession-times for a number of countries appears to be stabilizing and even easing-up slightly. However, the days of tons of easy credit, low rates and readily available financing for home purchases, cars, etc. are over. I only hope the majority of people once more learn the value of living within one's means.
Sorry for us all being too busy playing a quality RPG like Mass Effect 2 for the 2nd / 3rd time over an over hyped pile of Japanese toss!

I did. I got ca. 124 hours of game play out of my first play through of ME2. It's my GOTY 2010 and Dragon Age was my GOTY 2009. BioWare is on a roll. Can't say that's my impression of SE.
I played both Final Fantasy XIII and Mass Effect 2, both great games. Still haven't found a game worth replacing my Xbox for though. Dragon Age and ME2 were both amazing PC games, right up there with The Witcher.

Wait, doesn't a fanboy have a penchant for a particular platform, above all others? So what if this hypothetical 'fanboy' owns and loves their PS3, Wii and PC equally, but dislikes the $3.60?
