Just Dance sells 2m, breaks sales records

No, we don't know how either
Ubisoft's Just Dance has sold over two million units worldwide to date, the publisher has announced. Just to put that in recent perspective, that's more than Bayonetta or Heavy Rain.

Okay, so it's not exactly CVG hardcore material - but it's become the fastest-selling new intellectual property from a third-party publisher on Wii.

Just Dance features a track list with more than 30 famous tunes from the '60s to today, including songs by Katy Perry, MC Hammer and the Spice Girls.

According to NPD data, the title was the best-selling music/rhythm game for Wii in the US from December 2009 through February 2010, and is on track to maintain its sales momentum for March.

The title hit No. 1 in the U.K. market, beating well-established hardcore video game franchises.

"The consumer response to Just Dance has been overwhelming," said John Parkes, EMEA marketing director at Ubisoft. "With Just Dance's success we've seen a renewal of the music video game genre, as this is truly a game that is accessible and enjoyable for everyone."

This game doesn't actually work. I stood, redundantly, holding the Wii-mote as my friend enthusiastically danced like a chicken. I beat him.

Dancing games make my thirteen year old boy dance constantly to spice girls and makes him a thin sissy. Why can't he play cod and be an angry, violent,, obese autistic baldy like me?

Because there are tons of people like that already in the world. They are mostly called "Americans".

Just dance does extremely well in what it sets out to do. It may lack slick presentation, it may only registers about 60% of your moves but if you want a game that gets friends and family together and have a damn good laugh then there is very little that comes close on any format.
I also find it funny that CVG writes "No, we don't know how either" about its 2 million sales as an incredible ignorant remark. Wasn't CVG on TV defending games against peoples ignorances?

Its something different from all the countless FPS out there and as a game that shows that video games can bring people together and shows games in a positive light , then Just dance should be congratulated and not mocked.

Very good point and as far a casual pick up and play part games go, this is better than most, I've had more fun playing that than the ealier mentioned Bayonetta.

C&VG may well go on television and defend the ideals of video gaming but unfortunately stereotypes are born from the realities of real life. So they are the same nerdy girlfriendless hairy palmed masturbators as the rest of us. To them Just Dance is evil, as you may have to play it with the family and there is no space marine protagonist.
Hey i just got lucky, my hot girlfriend likes nerds...God only knows why?!

You are speaking like there aren't a large number of wii games already (wii sports resort, mario kart, raving rabbids, wario ware etc.) that can easily be enjoyed by just about anyone but do the job much more competently. Saying that there is very little that comes close on any format is a very uninformed thing to say unless your only experience with the console is this game.

I'm not going to congratulate a shoddy product just because it sales well when there are so many better alternatives available. It's good that more people are enjoying the medium but I would prefer one of the more solidly made games was recieving these kind of sales.

As an owner of all 3 systems I can honestly say that I do not know of a game that bridges the gap between male and female/young and old better than just dance (please inform me if you can think of any other!). You just have to watch the countless videos on youtube to see how universal Just dance is. I agree that there are higher profile and better made games out there that should get the reconition that they deserve but to say that just because this game doesn't have the same production values as something like Wii sports,Sing star or Lips it should be any less fun. A game can be fun no matter how much or how little cash you pump into it. Just dance is a cheap (in price and production values) party game to have fun with friends and family and with 2 million sales then I cant see how anyone can say that its success is not deserved.

This confirms there is no god!!

If there were, he'd put a stop to this.

Personally I don't think God would approve of FPS games...

This cheaply made game isn't well made though and simply plays upon popular music to lure customers in though, it's not less fun because it's got lower production values, it's less fun because it's a poorly made game. People are essentially paying for one so those 'NOW' CDs with some lacklustre visuals to go along them.

As I said, Wii sports, Wario Ware, Raving Rabbids, those three games are all very easy to play and pretty gender neutral in their presentation and can be played by practically anyone.

Sure I understand how from a business point of view it's a success but I will not say this game is fun, in the same way I will not say the epic movie franchises are great films just because millions go to see them.
