If EA is planning to release a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2, it's keeping schtum.
CVG checked in with the publisher this afternoon to ask if it was keen on releasing a PS3 version of the game, and all we got was a short, sharp: "No comment on that one." Delivered in a polite manner, we may add.
The comment comes after Polish site Kikoo claimed that there is some source code of the PC version of the game that suggests a PS3 iteration has been created.
If there is a PS3 version (from what I've read previously, it sounds as if there is), I wonder why they can't talk about it. EA do own the IP after all and looking back on the effect a timed deal had on PS3 Bioshock (sales-wise), it would be a bad idea unless it comes out soon.
I'm too engrossed in dragon age origins to care about mass effect 2 at the moment. I didnt think much of the first one plus sci fi isn't really my thing so I'm not overly bothered for the time being. Give it time.
I'd kind of like to have this. I'm currently playing through ME2 on my PC but my PS3 is linked out to a screen that's about twice as big and a decent surround sound system to boot.. Almost worth buying it again to play...
With no first, why release the second? Though, suppose they could make some movie, explaining the story. BLU-RAY disks can hold enough data
There will be a Mass Effect Special Edition that will include both Mass Effect 1 and 2 in one box. It will be released on the PC, 360 and PS3. It'll be out just before Christmas.
I personally think it's a case of 'when' this will happen rather than 'if'.
If there's no PS3 version planned they'd come out and say so. There are too many PS3 punters out there who'd buy it (myself included). For now it's a console shifter for Microsoft and I suspect there are multiple exclusivity agreements in place between them and the publishers hence the "no confirmation, no denial" approach...

but ms held the publishing rights to mass effect back when bioware were independant, when ea bought them they had to do a deal with ms to get the rights back, i doubt ea wanted to tie mass effect to the xbox forever but ms obviously wanted some exclusivity. and ea and bioware wouldn't be allowed to mention a ps3 version so there wouldn't be any adverse effect on on sales of the xbox version, face it, mass effect is likely to be a system seller, if you were a ps3 only owner and you wanted mass effect, right now you only know for cetain it's coming to xbox, if you knew a ps3 version was on the way you might wait, ms don't want that. so ea keeping schtum was obviously part of the deal to get the rights back.
I bought an Xbox just to play ME2 having played the first on my nephew's machine. I'd love to see it on the PS3 because my brand new Elite sounds like a boeing!! Top, top game though, i think i'm enjoying this more than Dragon Age.
If and when it gets released it will be old news. Games move to fast to delay a release from the original. People buy most of their games when they are new, not six months later. Thats why bioshock did s**te on the PS3. Old game, old news, move on. Buy the next big thing.
they'll be looking long and hard at waht happened to bioshock. Cost lot of money to port it to ps3 and the sales were shoddy at best. mass effect is a sort of IP that wouldn't really benifit from multiplatform. saying that bioshock is the sort of game that you would expect it would
If they release it I will buy it,its the only X360 game I fancy. Now that I think about it ,I could buy it for my PC ....have to check if it can run it though.
Mas effect 2 has a import save feature from mass effect 1, so I don't see how a PS3 version would work. The game is selling very well, there is no reason for a PS3 version. Just buy a 360 arcade unit if you want to play it.
We all knew it was coming to the PS3, EA accidentally confirmed it on their own Russian website and those kinds of things don't happen by accident.
Mass Effect 1 and 2 will be hitting the PS3. EA can't talk about it yet because timed - exclusivity means an embargo on free speech as well, the same reason Rockstar weren't able to confirm the PS3 version of the GTA DLC until recently and the same reason Ubisoft are currently unable to confirm the PS3 version of Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Considering the poor sales of 360 hardware and booming YOY growth for the PS3, it's no surprise making a full third party exclusive for Microsoft's console is a very unattractive proposition for developers/publishers.

Re the ME1 side of this: Doubtful.
Whilst ME1 is still a classic game it's hardly a straightforward port, and the fact its 3 years old is fairly evident in the gameplay and mechanics. Is it worth translating to the PS3?
It looks/plays quite dated now and would look a bit s**t next to ME2 if played fresh. In other words - why convert something far from perfect that takes 40 hours to complete, that LOOKS like a game from 2007 and could quite easily put new players off playing the amazing 2nd game before they even get that far?
In addition, there are still rights issues with MS studios even though EA owns the property now. Finally ME3 is already in development and ME2 development is ongoing in terms of major DLC. Highly unlikely that a PS3 version would play catch up for BOTH games and not have been announced as yet.

I doubt ME1 will come over too. My first inkling ME2 would make it to the PS3, was early on when Bioware stated it could be played easily by newcomers to the franchise. That could have easily been a reference to PS3 owners and not just 360 owners who skipped the first game.
