Here's the first look at the upcoming Tekken live action movie, which will hopefully not suck anywhere near as hard as the recent Chun Li flick.
Directed by Dwight Little (Halloween 4, Marked for Death, Rapid Fire), it follows Jin Kazama who seeks to rid his soul of the devil inside him. How does one do that? By putting boot to ass, obviously.
It'll be released directly to DVD and Blu-ray (is that a good sign? we think probably not...) in the UK on April 5.
In a way strange sort of way I wouldn't mind watching this as long as I'd ignore that it's supposed to be based on a game. Just kinda reminds me of a typical 'cheesy' but watchable fighting film like Karate Kid
Can't view it at work unfortunately. The Anime wasn't much good and I expect this to be a bit rubbish. I'll still watch it though. It might be of some entertainment value. I did enjoy the first Mortal Kombat movie.
It's got that chinese bloke or played shansun in the mortal kombat film! got to be a bad sign! haha
Yeah. You mean Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. He was Shang Tsung in 'Mortal Kombat' and the main bad guy in 'Showdown in Little Tokyo' (classic film). He looks like a joke in this film though!
Its also got Gary Daniels as Brian Fury. He played the 'Ken' character in Jackie Chan' 'City Hunter'. Check out this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CuGbxYXmm8 (how it made me laugh when I was a kid)...
The fight choreography is by Cyril Raffaelli though and he's pretty good with his stuff. He's in the 'District 13' movies (which he also choreographed), 'Kiss of the Dragon' with Jet Li (the smaller one of the twins) and 'Die Hard 4'.
Still, one to download and get drunk watching methinks cos the film looks pap
It reminds me of Bloodsport. I'm not expecting it to be a tour de force but if it has some decent fight sequences ala Bloodsport I'll be happy (lets be honest... Bloodsport was awful but brilliant at the same time).
Holy fack, Lateef Crowder is Eddie Gordo! Now, that is quite a good sign. But, the absolute crucial thing to remember in these type of films is the fighting. If the fighting is top notch, then it doesn't really matter about the story at all, or even if the acting is good.
Looking at the trailer, the fighting doesn't look too bad. Will have to wait and see when I watch the full film I suppose.
Looks very low budget but could also have some good fight choregraphy. Will give it a view on release day, might use my free Blockbuster rental card for it lol. The dude who played Shan Tsung in Mortal Kombat was also in the movie Rising Sun with Wesley Snipes, Sean Connery and Harvey Kietel. He's a fairly decent actor who's had some poor choice when accepting jobs. Suprised no one noticed the c**kney/aussie bloke (his accent seems to flip between them :S). He's the dude that played Kano in the first Mortal Kombat movie. And yeah the Tekken anime wasn't up to much (the animation was crap) but it did have a superb soundtrack. Hoping the live-action follows suit but not gonna hold my breath . And I mean c'mon the director did make Rapid Fire (one of Brandon Lee's best film's pre-Crow).
From what I hear, it's not a Hollywood movie. In which I mean, it's an indie film. But yeah, Jin should be Japanese. But meh, what are you gonna do? I suppose they have to appeal to the American market as that's where the money is.
I think im the only one here that thinks it looks half decent. ok yeah it looks a bit low budget but it isnt a hollywood film is it, as long as the fightin is awesome and the story isnt like Tekken 6 (which didnt have a story really did it) then its gonna be alright
Don't knock it until you've tried it is all im sayin, still gonna buy it just for the fact its Tekken

Dude, the c**kney is Luke Goss from Bros AKA Nomak from 'Blade II' and the main bad guy from 'Hell Boy II'.
Hate to break it to you, but 'Kano' - Trevor Goddard - is dead

You obviously haven't read what I put then. I think it looks ok, but I've really got to see the whole film until I make my mind up properly.

Yup. Luke Goss. Shame about Mr Goddard
Cung Le is also in this movie as Marshall Law.
Saw the trailer finally and it's standard fare for a marial arts movie. Good call on Bloodsport btw, Bretteh. I miss those times when I was younger and used to rent out all the Van Damme/Segal/Jackie Chan movies
'Bloodsport' was ace. Yes, its a little cheesy but that's what made it. The fight scenes (for a US martial arts movie at the time) were really well done. A few yaers ago, me and a friend 'celebrated' the early 90s US martial movies with this, Showdown in Little Tokyo, Out For Justice, American Samurai and Only the Strong. I have all those on DVD and can still watch them now. Well, with the exception of 'Samurai' as that truly is shocking. We'd actually watched that more for the comedy value than anything else.
Shame how far those guys have fallen now. At least we can depend on Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen these days still
In saying that, this looks dire. Gina, Cung Le and Roger Huerta have all let their MMA careers suffer in order to be movie stars. If this is what they're being offered, I'd stick to fighting.
Bunch of nobodies as usual, apart from the guy that did shang tsung in the Mortal Kombat movie. Nina Williams, they better have someone cool to play her, she rocks!
Lateef Crowder who plays Eddie Gordo isn't a nowbody if you know your martial artists/stuntmen. But, he'll probably be underused like he has been in the past.
