The Halo Legends special edition Blu-Ray and DVD have been detailed, ahead of their release in the US on February 9, followed by the UK on February 15.
The two disc DVD of the anime series includes (in Microsoft's words):
The Making of Halo Legends - An introduction to Halo Legends followed by a making-of segment for each episode.
Halo: Gaming Evolved - Explaining the Halo phenomenon from its inception as an Xbox video game to a present day entertainment franchise.
Audio Commentary with directors Frank O'Connor and Joseph Chou
Widescreen (1.78:1)
The Blu-ray edition is said to be "loaded" with bonus materials, including all extras from the 2-disc special edition as well as "Halo: The Story so Far, an overview of the Halo universe up until the end of Halo 3." Good news for the two purchasers who've never played a Halo game, then.
Legends is made up of seven shorts produced by five anime production houses (Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4 C, and Toei Animation) as well as Microsoft's own newly-formed company, 343 Industries.
So far 2 of the 4 I've seen were any good. And by good I mean, ok. Shame- was hoping for it to be awesome. But then all I need to do is take a look at just about any anime/manga in the past decade to realise it was going to be a bit naff.
And I was a huge fan of manga once upon a time. Blade of the Immortal is still brilliant though.
I don't own either consoles ( though very very tempted to get a ps3 for GOW3 Ultimate E.) .. but always funny to read the comments from both sides Let the battle of the fanboys begin !
Altitude you confuse me. Are you just a sarcastic ass who has nothing to say other than sniping at other peoples comments, or are you just an ass.
And as for grasshopper, well cheer up mate.
And as for this thread - I won't be buying this DVD. If I did I would watch it on the PS3, but I do think the Xbox could do with that capability as well. But it doesn't take anything away from the quality of games coming out for the Xbox over the next few months. That neutral enough for you both?

Animé nowadays doesn't seem to be as good as back in the day. I have over 100 VHS manga vids in the loft that my bro and I bought over the years when we were teenagers. Some classics. It does seem that quality has suffered over the years. I am sure there are some gems to be found. Can't be bottomd to look tbh though... although I'll check out Blade of the Immortal I think. Ta

Well hang on, I'm not the one who just HAD to comment on the fact that you can't play blu-rays on the 360 - the game that Halo is exclusive to. And you're actually calling me an ass over the people who turn up and say "if i put this in to my ps3 it'd tell me to get f**ked" or something similar.
El..oh...f**king...el!
Actually you may have a bit of a point: I've got a stinking cold which is putting me in a right mardy mood. Snapping back at pathetic little comments seems to be top of my agenda today, and apparently people don't like it when I do. Oh well.

whats more pathetic?
stating 360s cant play BRs (especially since its a halo related film)
or saying ps3s dont have a turntable on them?!
and dont say it was a joke, your in a mood remember.
it was a comment to hide the shame of that fact will7476 made.
only a tool would buy a standalone BR player instead of a ps3 if you were a gamer... or a pauper. which would be in line with the intial console preference.

The shame?! I've got the ability to play blurays, I'm not ashamed of that
I do actually feel a bit bad for snapping back at will, because he's not really a c*nt. Actually, @will7476, I'm sorry if I upset you I was just trying to make a point that you don't need to point out the 360 doesn't have a bluray player, we all know that and those of us that want that functionality have made other arrangements.
Whereas I quite enjoy it when people attack you, svd, as relentlessly as you attack others because it's something that clearly makes you uncomfortable.
I think most of the comments above about this are pathetic.
I actually enjoyed most of the Halo anime. It wasn't exceptional but most of it was good.
As for BluRay player jokes. I've just been in ASDA and seen a Philips BluRay player for £77. So I think people wanting to watch BluRays don't really need the PS3 option any more.
So that would be the Blu ray you can't watch on the Xbox then...
oh well, I'm sure Mass Effect 2 will more than make up for it.
I've heard that not even the PS3 can play the Bioshock soundtrack vinyl included in the special edition. How inconvenient!
Actually, that may not be true.
Grab yourself a USB turntable, Linux for PS3, and Linux turnable software, and it may well be possible to play the Bioshock vinyl soundtrack on the PS3 .

I'm going to disagree on this count. While I've only recently started buying anime, and I've only watched a few on and off over the years, it is instantly clear that visually at least the efforts these days are leaps and bounds ahead of what was released in the 1980's and 1990's. Even stuff from 1999 often looks outdated by today's standards. Whether the story lines, characters, dialogue, etc. are any good is another matter entirely.

And then there is someone like me who would fall into none of those categories. If I were to buy into BR at present time I would probably look for a BR with second generation tech that's better than what the PS3 BR has while selling at a lower price as a stand alone unit. True, if you are also willing and able to buy PS3 games on top of PC and Xbox 360 games and wanted BR then it makes good sense to buy a PS3. I'm able but unwilling.

Hey Bazza, how would you say the Halo anime measures up against the likes of the two modern iterations of "Appleseed"? "Sky Blue"? "Ghost In The Shell" (modern iteration)? "Ergo Proxy"?

I don't think they mean that anime has gotten worse in the technical sense.
I think they mean in a style and design sense. My view is that anime these days has almost completely lost what made it so enchanting to people like me years back.
Now-a-days anime = childish techno emo-appealing dross. And a focus on series anime rather than anime movies.
Stuff like Ninja Scroll, FotNS, Urotsukidoji, Violence Jack etc are sadly relics from a bygone era of cinema as anime has 'evolved' since into stuff like Bleach...yuk

Tastes differ I guess. From what I have seen there seemed to be just as p**s poor dialogue and childish-bordering-on-amateurish anime from 20 years ago as can (unfortunately) still be found today. At least more of it is easier on the eyes these days which does not necessarily make for a good story, true enough, yet it beats the alternative of something that is both boring/moronic and looks like yesterday's leftovers to boot, IMO. Perhaps more of it is being produced today with bigger markets supporting a higher output though that is purely speculation on my part.
Altitude - I love you too. Let us be friends (big hugs). I have nothing against any console. My point, probably badly made, was that the Xbox could do with the ability to play Blu Ray discs without a stand alone device.
And grasshopper - keep up the comments, they do keep me warm inside on these cold days and nights.

Yeah it would have made the bluray option a touch cheaper for me, that's for sure.
Still, at least I can enjoy my Bioshock soundtrack on the Wii I don't use....they use LPs, right?
