We're going to go ahead and presume that you've all heard about Tiger Woods' recent (alleged) crimes of passion. One company that's publically stood behind the world famous golfer is EA Sports and its support looks set to continue with this month's launch of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online.
EA Sports boss Peter Moore has updated his blog to show full support for the golfer going forward.
"Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf. We didn't form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm's length endorser. Far from it. We chose to partner with Tiger in 1997 because we saw him as the world's best, most talented and exciting golfer. We struck that partnership with the assumption that he would remain near or at the top of his sport for years to come.
"By his own admission, he's made some mistakes off the course. But regardless of what's happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history.
"At EA Sports, we make authentic sports simulations. When we say 'It's in the Game', it is not just a tag line but a statement about the quality and authenticity of the game experience. Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online is truly representative of that rallying cry, and a game that all of us at EA Sports are proud to be delivering this month to sports fans around the globe."
Has Tiger's (alleged) romps put you off buying another golf game? But if EA was to drop him who would be a suitable replacement for the packshot? We literally can't think of another golfer we know the name and face of.
I was going to make a joke about Tiger Woods, but doing so is a little pathetic. I really don't understand why it bothers anyone what this man does in his private life. Sure I understand if what he'd done had been immoral and illegal, had involved violence or worse, then it's understandable that people should judge him.
What's gone on is between the man and his family. I find it extremely odd that a pop star or movie star are rarely discredited for their sexual behaviour but (some) sportsmen and politicians are. If what someone famous does in their private life doesn't affect the quality of their work why does anyone care? I don't care if a movie star who's entertained me in the past is gay, married to someone overweight and ugly, drives a car I dislike, has a hobby that would bore me to tears or cheats on their partner. I geniunely find the fascination people have in others private life and then the negative reaction when situations like this arise very strange.
Famous people and those in power will always be desired and many do take advantage of that. Everybody knows this. It's simply a self-esteem issue or lack of moral standards. Do people really expect the famous to be less flawed than the rest of us? If so, it's time to join reality and grow up a little.
None of what happened made him any less of an athlete. And the fact that he's publicly said sorry has made him a far bigger person compared with the amount of promiscuity that seems to revolve around football these days. I for one am glad that this series will continue.
My golf instructor reckons that my driving is now nearly as good as Tiger Woods... the other day I put it through the trees and straight into a water hazard.
Great games. Moderate to poor role model. Ian Poulter 2011 anyone?
I think the furore is more to do with the public image that Woods portrayed, and banked various sponsorships on, as a wholesome family man. And though I don’t think it should detract away from his achievements, or his obvious skill, what he did could be classed as immoral as he’s been cheating on his wife a seemingly massive amount!
Fair play that he got away with it for that long though! I see no problem in jokes though, why can’t we make fun of it? I’d make fun out of my mates if they got caught out so badly, I see no reason why we can’t make fun of Woods!

It'll be interesting to see how future tiger woods golf games sell.
I think the majority of golf fans will still buy them, and why not? He cheated on his wife yes, but he has a soft spot for the ladies(lots of them). I don't think he should be judged too harshly because of that. After-all, his wife has lived a life of luxury with him, and it's about to continue as she'll get a reported 185 million in the divorce settlement.
Even though i think it's ludicrous that women can get this kind of payout from wealthy men, i have no sympathy for any wealthy bloke who doesn't take out a prenuptial agreement before marriage.

I'll be buying the next tiger woods game.
If she's the sort of person who is heard joking to her friends about her "$185 million Christmas present", then quite frankly she's the sort of woman you can expect to get cheated on. It's unfortunate that she's the one that will come out of this unscathed.
I wasn't aware that the man sold himself to the public as the perfect family man or wonderful husband. Regardless of what is going on with him and his wife I actually think his relationship with his children is more important. Had he abused his children then it's a different story. But the sad reality is half of marriages end in divorce so the two of them are just another statistic.
As I mentioned in the original post I really don't understand peoples need to judge others based on their sex life. It seems really petty to me and very bad way of judging character. It's just one minor aspect of a personality.
His wife can be thankful she'll be handsomely compensated. Millions suffer the agony of divorce but aren't so lucky to potentially receive such a large financial distraction. Or maybe she's geniune and will walk with a minimum and realistic sum... I think we all know why she probably married Tiger, and that possibly explains why he did what he did. The law is wrong. No one should need legal documents to retain their own wealth.

Ah but your forgetting where it happened, in America, where most of the country are right wing Christians and much of the press pander to them. So breaking the sanctity of marriage in their eyes is one of the biggest taboos, especially if you’re in the public eye, so they’ll hound him for it, especially as someone who didn’t really play the press game and kept himself away from the limelight except for his myriad sponsorships. The press didn’t like that, so the first slip up they were always going to tear him apart.
As for the law being wrong, it isn’t, the law is clear on where you stand should you be the one to break a marriage, you will pay so he should have got a pre-nup,. If he was foolish enough not to protect his earnings and then play away from home and get caught then he deserves to be taken to the cleaners as he’s an idiot.

Boris Becker 2011. He's due a comeback.
I'd like to see a Golf game with Brucie and Tarbie....that'd be brilliant - a little bit of banter while teeing off, Brucie saying 'Good game, good game' once all is finished.
Maybe even get Alice Cooper and Russ Abbot to make cameos.
Yeah I hear you about the American way and all that.
While I agree that it's possibly immoral that anyone should be paid so much money, let alone hold to onto anywhere near that much, I can't agree with you that he 'deserves' to have any substantial amount taking by his wife. Most laws seem to be an attempt to protect the innocent or look after people or provide a fair solution. But a person gets paid horrendeous amounts of money to do their job. They're married and then get divorced and you think it's fair that their partner be able to take half of their horrendous wealth? No. I can accept a healthy pay off.
Had she not met him she'd have met a guy doing a normal job, earning normal money and lived a normal life (assuming she isn't a geniune gold digger... if she happily accepts half his wealth I would guess she probably is). She's had enough reward living Tiger Woods lifestyle for a few years. I think the equivalent of a very well paid job salary a year, or if Tiger Woods chooses to give her more is acceptable.
He may not deserve to be so rich, but it's rewarded to him for being the best or one of the best people on the planet at his sport. And you think she deserves half? For what, for being married to him? If they built up and shared a business together, I agree it's a completely different story. Perhaps had she not met Tiger she'd have had a career that would have earned her tens of millions of dollars... I suspect she's not that special or talented.
Even if he were violent to her, absolute worst case scenario... prison and a compensation package is a given, sure, but still nothing anywhere near even half a million dollars. Taking half of anyone's wealth, however small or large is wrong on all levels. Settlements and compensation I agree with but taking half a man or woman's wealth is totally wrong. On this we'll have to disagree.
