Mass Effect 2's been given a UK release date of January 29, with a pre-order scheme set to kick off shortly.
Those who pre-order the sequel will receive download codes to unlock special-ops armour and weaponry, including 'Terminus Assault Armor' and the 'M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon'. Sounds tough.
"Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo," says EA.

The M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon meanwhile generates "a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass, and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2." Right.
'Inferno Armor' will also be available as a separate pre-order incentive, says EA. "This item is used by officers to monitor battlefield conditions by recognizing elevated heart rates, and regulates sub-systems with extreme efficiency to allow for greater response times," it says.
"Our fans are in for a genuine thrill in the New Year with Mass Effect 2 - the second installment in the trilogy will be of amazingly high quality," said BioWare co-boss, Dr. Ray Muzyka of the date.
"BioWare's fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting this epic sequel, and we couldn't be more excited to reward them for pre-ordering by delivering some awesome bonus content!"
Specific UK retail partners for the two pre-order bonuses will be revealed soon, EA says. It's going to be a busy Q1 2010, isn't it?
What about for PS3? One of the Bioware dev’s mistakenly said “PC, 360 and probably PS3” at some thing somewhere apparently, then said whoopsie and wouldn’t answer questions on it. You heard it here first or possibly the other place that I heard it first second hand via someone who spoke to someone who was at the event at the time. It’s true.

Pmsl!!
I don't care if it ever comes out for PS3, as long as it's still out on 360. More ME is ALWAYS a good thing! Bring it!!

if it does come (i think it will) itl prob be end of the year. hope it does would be real good
My guess is the PS3 version will come later in the course of the year. With a release date just over 3 months away, I'd have expected them to make a proper annoucement now if it was coming.
I am surprised (very pleasantly though!) to see the game getting a date for so early in year, as I was half expecting another delay leading to a late spring or early summer release. Roll on the end of January - this is definitely my most anticipated game.
Delightful! That's an earlier release date than I was expecting. The pre-order goodies sound tempting too, but what of the DRM for the PC version? I've heard rumors it will be similar, or the same, as to the DRM that will come with "Dragon Age: Origins" which EA/BioWare will not be the same as the DRM used with both "Spore" and "Mass Effect". If that's true and the DRM is disc-based only without limited activations then I'm already sold.
Sweet, now that I (finally) have Uncharted 2 in my PS3 this has become my most wanted game. I didn't expect it out till at least March, nice to be pleasantly surprised by a release date for a change.
ShopTo's ME2 offering is about 2 quid cheaper than Amazon's yet it makes no mention of the potential pre-order goodies. The one on Amazon offers the Inferno Suit; I had hoped all three items mentioned above were in the CE versions irrespective of which store the game is purchased at.
By all rights this game should be bloody brilliant!
We do need to differentiate between Britain and Europe. Not because I am anti Europe (quite the opposite in fact) but because we sometimes still get games before/after the mainland because of localisation/language issues.
Yeah, I also thought this was going to be out in March! It's a really nice surprise that it is now going to be Jan! This in January, AVP3 in February, Bioshock 2 in March and Super Streetfighter 4 in April. Oh God, all these amazing games next year.. it's all too much... I need to sit down..

Can't provide links but on play.tm yesterday they had a couple of news links to articles saying that it's definately not PS3 bound. Maybe a search on Google will help.

Thought you had a 360 Miss_wacy or has it died on you?
Just start writting Europe instead of UK already, you know you are a part of Europe, right?
True, though many Britons appear to almost stubbornly insist on intentionally distancing themselves from the mainland.
Would you want to be associated with the French?
I don't seem to have the same issue with it that you do. From an EU perspective you are already associated with them, also via NATO (although the French insisted on maintaining some autonomy from that organization for decades on end), trade, history and yes also geographically. While the French culture has been, and certainly can be, obnoxious IMO, the same rings true of a great many other cultures - possibly all cultures. Conversely French, British, Russian, American, German, Chinese, Scandinavian, Spanish, Italian, Egyptian, Middle Eastern, Greek, and many other cultures have contributed to the overall human global civilization. Pros and cons, man, that's all. So to answer your question in a word, "No", I don't have a problem having some form of association with the French depending on the issue at hand (for example, if an associate supported child pornography I'd have serious issues with that associate, yet that is an extreme example).

Quite frankly it would surprise me if ME 1 and/or 2 make it to the PS3. I don't think it's impossible, yet it also wouldn't come as a complete surprise to me if the original ME trilogy didn't make it to the PS3 at all. Perhaps some sort of spin-off might be an alternative option at some point?

Exactly only the devs know for sure, again it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up on the PS3 in some shape or form, but I cannot see them recoding the original for PS3 now. With so called "exclusives" these either appearing on PC or being timed, never say never.
Me I like each platform to keep certain titles exclusive as it then justifies my owning those platforms

Bioware released a statement yesterday stating 360 & PC only, it's on IGN.
Personally, I wouldn't care if it made it's way to the PS3, as the universe Bioware created is superb and it deserves to be experienced by a wider audience.
I usually don't mind pre-orders and CE goodies, however on this occassion, as with Total War: Empires CE, I object. Gamestop is the only outlet that will grant you access to the Terminus Armor and the M-490 Blackstorm gun which does the following:
Reserve Mass Effect 2 and receive GameStop exclusive Terminus Assault Armor and M-490 Blackstorm gun.
The Terminus Armor: Like all modern combat hard-suits, Terminus armor is environmentally sealed with an independent air supply for use in space and extreme planetary conditions, with an onboard “micro-frame” computer capable of running a suite of battle management software. To prevent detection by passive thermal sensors, body heat is channeled to the base of the feet, where it can be dispersed into the ground.
* Increases storm speed by 10% * Increase shields +15% * Increases all weapons reserve ammo by +1
M-490 Blackstorm: The Blackstorm encases a few particles of matter within a high-powered mass-increasing field, elevating them to near-infinite mass and creating a powerful localized gravity well that draws nearby enemies and objects into itself. The rapidly-increasing gravity near the event horizon of the singularity rips the objects apart.
* Fires a singularity projectile that draws in nearby enemies, and then explosively hurls them away. * Can be charged up to create larger more powerful singularities.
The reason I object is that Gamestop does not have branches in all regions where this game will be released, and even if it did, it still amounts to punishing customers whom prefer, or have, to purchase from a different retailer.
Furthermore, it has been stated in at least one online article that the M-490 Blackstorm weapon allows the owner to develop further heavy weapons abilities than other players whom do not have that weapon. From BioWare man himself, Chris Priestly:
"The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo. - The M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass, and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2."
I am completely opposed to any approach that gives one set of customers access to game changing items simply because they pre-ordered, or pre-ordered from one store over another. Give pre-orders and CE soundtracks, t-shirts, nice cloth maps, art books, miniature statues, cheap night vision goggles, etc. by all means! But don't consciously handicap those other customers whom still pay full price for a legal copy of the game, but whom for a variety of reasons may not have wanted, or been able, to pre-order or get the CE edition of the game. It's unfair and it's opportunistic, and it does not foster good will amongst the life blood of the companies that do this (i.e. it's customers).
Regarding the transfer of a saved character from ME1, apparently you can earn bonuses to stats that were maxed out, although they are apparently reset in ME2? Also, BioWare is claiming that all the decisions you made with your character in ME1 will somehow be registered in ME2 and affect how the second game plays out. I wonder if we'll see a major nod to what you decided the fate of the arachnid queen should be?
On the one hand I might rue the day I decided to let her live as insect swarms attack civilized space, yet on the other hand how cool would it be if in ME2 or ME3 humans and their allies are about to be overrun by the sentinels and then the arachnids - with their all but unstoppable waves of living hive mind insects - come and tip the scales in favour of humanity, thanks to one moment of kindness shown by Shepard?
Ah well. Perhaps we'll never hear of the queen nor her brood again. Relationship decisions and which party members you opted for in ME1 are said to be definite influences in ME2 though.
That is sooner than I expected, I thought it would be Spring. I really hope ME2 supports AA, as the aliasing was a real bugger in the first one IMO - stupid when you're getting 100+ FPS! I also read somewhere that the devs had improved their shadow filtering; which was IMO the single biggest visual blight of the original.
I wonder how the PC version of ME2 will run considering their comments surrounding the 360+ optimisations (I haven't noticed the recent additions to UE3.0 such as the SSAO though) - and who knows if they're using any fluid surfaces... however, if I get ME2 it'll be on 360, considering I have a level 59 soldier there ; but whether I get ME2 at all depends on how the save game feature works.

And in another post tibiaitem was talking about how a Nigerian Colonel had left him over $2 Million US Dollars in his will, and as he had no descendants, tibiaitem was chosen through the randomly generated email address location identifier machine.
That (poorly constructed) spam message ought to be deleted by the CVG staff, and the poster banned for the offense, or at the very least given a warning with further lapses resulting in a ban, IMO.
I have been playing Mass Effect again recently in the hardcore difficulty, and it really is bastard hard. I don’t think I will ever even attempt the Insanity difficulty as I have a feeling their naming conventions are pretty literal…
